More power to 'em.
Unfortunately until the rest of us stop viewing people like this (people with the cajones to stand up to Big Brother constantly trying to stick their hands into our pants and grab our wallets) as "nuts" or "extremists", it'll continue. The only time there's any incentive for a crook or tyrant to change their ways is when there's a perceptible threat to them. Unfortunately one couple on a mountain doesn't qualify, but if everyone started taking them seriously and saying "f*ck you" to constant demands for handouts, things would change. I hope it ends well for them (with the tax collectors saying "screw this, it ain't worth the trouble"), but I suspect it won't.

If someone doesn't want to pay taxes in this country, don't let the door hit you on the way out. You are free to leave, so go. But don't sit there and take and take and take and pretend like you don't have to pay anything back. That is reserved for the crack mommas and welfare babies. This guy isn't going to get killed for not paying taxes, he will get killed for barricading himself (and his wife) and refusing to come out. Just like Ruby ridge, Just like Waco. If someone is stupid enough to barricare and refuse to surrender it will end badly. Why the surprise? Why the support? Why do people want to support stupidity? I detest it when someone becomes a hero because they are stupid. it is a direct reflection on those who support the stupidity. I don't. He will get what he wants and deserves. |

The 16th Amendment isn't a law, it is a change to our Constitution. Up until 1913, you could only directly tax individual if it were exactly the same for each person. Everyone pays $100. No more, no less.
The INTENT of the change was to go after "The Rich". There was supposed to be a clause to limit it to a maximum rate of 10%. That was left out in the final revision. No one, even in congress, thought congress would ever impose more than that! AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) was also supposed to only go after "The Rich", less than 100 individuals in 1969. And where are we today? Yep, with "inflation" lots of people are rich. Did you get a tax reduction with the "Bush" tax cuts? I didn't. Or I didn't as much as I was "supposed" to, since I was caught in the AMT tax. I wonder how much we could reduce taxes if we ended Earmarks/Pork and ended the war in Iraq?

Don't worry about the cost of the war. It'll simply get passed on to our kids. Go out and keep spending like they want you to.
