Civics Lesson: VP not an Executive Branch office

Apparently there is a Presidential Order regarding oversight of classified information.

Yeah, ummmm....Dick Cheney feels he is not bound by this Presidential Order because his office (Vice President of the United States of America) is not within the "executive branch" of our government. Gee wiz......I thought Dubya was Dick's boss.

Oh, and Cheney tried to abolish the agency that is asking him to comply with the Presidential Order. Of course.

This current "administration" is certainly instructive.

So does that mean he can't claim 'executive privilege?'

As if the previous administration was not? Come-on, give it a break guys. Slick Willie and Hitlery were much the same in many areas and you guys sound like this is something new.

How wise of our founding fathers to limit the time that an individual can reside in the White House...(OK...OK...With the help of an amendment....) otherwise I think we would be headed for either a monarchy or a dictatorship.

This administration has really been "creative". I wonder how anyone can defend some of its positions.

He thinks he's part of Congress. At least, for purposes of compliance (or lack thereof) with his boss' Presidential Order regarding classified information.

In my industry, we have a test we call the "Straight face test." I'm not sure this passes the "straight face test."

Executive Branch
The power of the executive branch is vested in the President, who also serves as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. The President appoints the Cabinet and oversees the various agencies and departments of the federal government.

In order for a person to become President, he or she must be a natural-born citizen of the United States, be at least 35 years of age, and have resided in the United States for at least 14 years. Once elected, the President serves a term of four years and may be re-elected only once.

President Bush's Cabinet

The tradition of the Cabinet dates back to the beginnings of the Presidency itself. One of the principal purposes of the Cabinet (drawn from Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution) is to advise the President on any subject he may require relating to the duties of their respective offices.

The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments-the Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, and the Attorney General. Under President George W. Bush, Cabinet-level rank also has been accorded to the Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency; Director, Office of Management and Budget; the Director, National Drug Control Policy; and the U.S. Trade Representative.

Joe:

Granted, some of the things the Clintons did were questionable. Some things they did were not bad. Not everything the Bushies has done is "bad" or "evil". But, in the years I have been following politics, I haven't seen as much denial or obfuscation as this administration has shown since RMN.

I really do think that the claim made by the VP is an attempt to end run the constitution. In my mind, that is far worse than a bad real estate deal or a BJ in the Oval Office, as bad as these might be. I would also like to ask the question: Why veto stem cell research while waging wars that wind up ending many lives, some of which probably deserve it and others who do not? Is that not a selective outlook in the sanctity of life?

Because it gives a cash incentive to create embryos to this end. If you don't think Billary are evil people, how are you accessing the internet from your cave?
