Very well put Z! Excellent . The whole point of my original post. The B&B thing reminds of a few yrs ago I was backpacking up in New Hampshire. I was taking a rest on the trail, next to a waterfall laying on my backpack. Couldnt ask for a nicer peaceful moment. A few other people were in the same spot spot just hanging out. Next thing you know a cell phone rings, this idiot picks it up and starts yelling into it to his caller on thye other end about where he is and how cool it is. This loudly went on for about 5 mins until I got up pick up my stuff walked over to him and told him what a rude, obnoxious shmuck that he was and how he ruined my day. and I stomped away. He just sat there with a dumb look on his face while the other few people clapped.

I just turned 38, and while entertaining some friends recently, was told: "you know Jeff (that's me), you're a technology avoider"! And even though I work in IT as a Project Manager, that statement is so true! This of course was said while a vinyl record was spinning on my turntable and the vacuum tubes in my two channel "hi-fi" amp were warmly glowing!!! I had an iPod for about two weeks and gave it away. I found it it to be a major PITA to constantly manage. I'm an avid music lover and see many concerts every year. When I listen to music, I generally listen to the entire CD (when it's not vinyl) from beginning to end, it's more of an experience for me. Something I look forward to.
I hardly ever listen to the radio in my 930 (my daily driver), that has no AC, no heat, no creature comforts - other than power windows and locks. Nav system??? WTF is that?!?!? I have a company cell phone that hardly ever rings and that I usually leave in the car in case of a break down. Sometimes I forget to charge the folker. And I have no *****ty, obnoxious ring tone programmed on it. When or if it rings, while I'm driving my car, I never answer it. I have no idea how to send a text message from it. I have to laugh when I see the bozos in my company walking around with the wireless ear-piece welded to side of their heads...looks ridiculous! I spend a lot of time with my wife and kids. I do enjoy the internet, but I just don't need to carry it around with me on my phone - yet! I guess this is a long winded way of saying: I could give a crap about the iPhone...

how is it that so many people have 600 dollars to shell out for the latest phone?
I guess everybody is just wealthy. |

Until I read this thread I had never heard of an iphone? Sounds like more useless crap to me.

Just for fun, check the prices on ebay later this week. If you think $600 is a lot, wait and see what they go for there. Hype is good if you can get one and sell it quick. There's a sucker born every minute.

I hate phones, period. But the IPhone is cool looking, and does interesting things. I'll consider it when it falls to $150-$200. And it will - or someone else will produce something similar to the IPhone for as much.
Be patient, fellow consumers.

Theres guys in our wireless division, and in our landlines that are panicking like this stupid thing is gonna put us out of business. Cracks me up. Before you know it, another company will put out something "more advanced".
I'm a techno hold out. I was the last of everyone I know to get a cell phone. (Only reason I got one in the first place was when my wife was going for her cancer treatments.) I have no need for a GPS unit in my vehicle. Ive driven for 20 something yrs all over this country without one. 90% of the people I know that have one , use it to drive from thier house to the mall and back. I have one in my boat. But I would never solely rely on it for navigation. Electronics do fail. I think it has just gotten to the point were people have become too dependent on "devices " and lack any kind of self ability. Which is only going to hurt the upcoming adult generation. But, thats a topic for another thread.......

No idea what features you want, but many of the new MS Mobile devices are really good. 3 years ago I went to Goodwood with a WM3 phone (SMT5600) and listened to 2 hours of music and watched a movie while on the plane. Plus it was the best "phone" I had owned up to that point. The 2 newer models I have had since were even better. And if you have an Exchange server there, you can "push" your Outlook to the phone. Or just pull down any POP3 / IMAP4 email account you want. Finally, a lot of folks measure speed based on Internet browsing. There is a registry hack that allows you to use a 3rd party DNS server and eliminate the terrible latency issue that AT&T has. And speaking of browsing from a phone, when are you going to get a Lo-Fi option for the BBS?

Speaking of AT&T's latency... I'm using a 3G card in my portable now, on AT&T. I had been noticing REALLY poor bandwidth and TONS of latency lately. Found a firmware update for the card, and applied it earlier today. It's going MUCH faster, but I can still detect a little latency most of the time... Know of a hack for a laptop PC with an AT&T wireless card? Definitely seems like their DNS sucks the big one often times.
