Need 2005 WRC coverage

Ok..here's the deal. I may have asked this before a few months ago, so excuse me if this is a repeat.

I have an incomplete VHS tape set of the WRC 2005 season. I want VHS or DVD coverage of the 2005 season.

Well....SPEED channel coverage stopped since 2005, so that won't work. Contacted WRC in England and they have DVD available...but ONLY for UK format...NOT USA format.

Talked to Duke Video people...no dice.

Got a nice response from Live Sockets Entertainment...and the 2006 and 2007 DVD will be available shortly. What about 2005?.... sorry, nope.

Does ANYONE here have tape or DVD coverage of the 2005 WRC season? At least from Finland (including Finland) to the end of the season.

- Wil

There have been very nice quality divx copies of the Eurosport (English, no commercials, commentators who didn't come from NASCAR) world feed all around the web. 1/2 hour per day, so lots of detail.

Most people get them from torrents, but they also show up on newsgroups (but only the current ones).

This website has summaries of some 2005 events: http://rally.stanis.info/en/wrc/

Wil,

Get with the program ;-) Buy a region free DVD player for $100... Mine plays all those Duke videos from the UK in PAL/SECAM/NTSC without breaking a sweat. It's an upsampling OPPO unit.. $150 last year, I imagine it's less now ! I wish I could help you with 2005 - I have 2006 though !!!

Plan B: your PC will probably play them, and if you have a some software, you can convert to NTSC and burn yourself a copy for your TV.

Edit: By the way, I will look tonight, I think my Mac's Idvd can convert them, if so I will burn you 2006 - though I have no way to test it since all my DVD players are multi-region-format ! ;-) You've certainly helped me enough when it comes to porsches ;-)

Would you mind linking the DVD's you are finding? I'd like to start a collection as i can only watch 'The Flying Finns' episode of Legends of Motorsports so many hundred times before it gets old.

Hey Deschodt:

I am a babe-in-the-woods when it comes to this kind of electronic techno stuff.

So...let me ask this. I have a portable DVD player ( Philips PET824). The instructions I just raced thru are confusing. In one place ( troubleshooting guide) it appears I can choose the "correct" setting..either NTSC or PAL. However, in another section of the instructions it says make sure the setting is correct for the TV (setting) it is attached to. I presume I can watch any DVD via the DVD's own screen...not attached to a TV...and play the UK Duke DVD formatted in PAL.... as long as the player's setting is on the proper format.

Is this correct? ...if so...I'm golden !!!

Probably not... There are 2 hurdles... One is the regional setting: From memory US is 1 and most of Europe 2... And even if you swapped your settings on the player, your TV would need to "read" PAL and it may not be capable of that...

Like I said, either get a $100-150 multizone/multiformat player, or convert the DVD on your PC, or watch them on your PC or Mac, that should work too !

I hate this stuff... I thought we were all "global" ...

Krimeny.....you can buy 35mm film to work anywhere in the world... etc, etc.... but "modern" stuff...forget it.

BTW...notice I said I would be willing to view the on-board DVD player's screen. This is a portable DVD player I'm talking about. Why are we bringing up TV's again ( and their setting) as part of the answer...when I'm not connecting to a TV as I said ???? Would this clarification help ??

;-) It's just that I'm talking about 3 different things at once...

Yes, your portable player would work IF it is capable of reading Zone 2 DVDs... It probably is not, but what do I know, look in the manual...

I'll see if I can copy the 2006 season (PAL) - you can then experiment...
PCs thend to be less picky about regional formats, you can generally change Zone a few times... Shoot me your land address in a PM...

Really, a nice multi-format player (with upsampling, meaning it'll look good even on a new HDTV) is the way to go if you are serious about this...

Greg:
Thank you for the continuing dialogue which ( by now) may soon become an irritation for you...not my intent.

I called Philips Tech support and they say that my portable DVD player can play either NTSC or PAL format...BUT..that it operates only for region 1 ( USA?) and Region 0/All ( USA and Canada?)

In my own crude way.. I was trying to find out if the DVD player I have ( purchased after April 2006...fairly recently) is indeed the kind of universal player you talk about. I don't think I'm that lucky ...

I agree should work on a pc or just buy a cheap multiregion, they must do them over there - what about eBay?

Some of the footage on youtube now is absolutely brilliant. Check this one out
