From the way things have been going lately with the whole government thing and our elected representatives, I'm thinking of following more of MM's thinking. Well, not actually, but I'm tempted.

Someday someone will inform him that a documentary presents the facts, not his spin on the subject. He refuses to comment on some of the spin when its brought up, so he realizes what he is doing.

Joe, A documentary film is always about a filmmakers point of view, not anyone elses. You can agree or disagree depending on the veracity of the facts presented, but if you already have your mind made up, then the facts or lack of are a moot point anyway. Sherwood

Anything we do not like, whether "An Inconvenient Truth", or "Sicko" has to be, by definition, "Propaganda". Anything we personally agree with must be the plain unvarnished truth. Additionally, the messenger as well as the message must be attacked. It makes us feel better.

Flipping channels the other day and watched an interview with MM (think it was a PBS channel). MM said something I thought was very interesting. Don't remember the exact context but while interviewing a French doctor who had spent a lot of time in the U.S., he basically asked the doctor why he thought all French citizens had very good universal health care (or whatever you want to call it) and we did not. The French dr. responded: "In France, the government is afraid of the people, in the U.S., the people are afraid of the government". Could be some truth in that statement...

Maybe someone can clear up the definition, but my understanding is that a "pure" documentary records and presents events without interfering in them. MM strays from this by actually influencing, staging or organizing many events he's presenting.

Of course MM does have a verdict on the facts he presents - but it astonishes me to see how many people get riled up by his "packaging" of the facts - and yet think nothing of the spin and crap they watch on Fox or CNN every night of the week. I commend MM for what he does and am looking forward to seeing 'Sicko'. There is so precious little critical thinking in the mainstream US media that guys like MM should be lionized in my view.

I would agree about Faux News. I do occasionally watch it in order to maintain a "fair and balanced" outlook, and it appears to be a ongoing informercial for Rupert Murdoch's POV disguised as news. CNN has its agenda as well.

The anger from those who ..... may already have extensive health coverage for them and their family. Let me guess. Am I right? PBH, If MM was from Canada (your home), would he have the same outlook? Why are you so angry about someone advocating health coverage not unlike what your govt. provides you? Perhaps the grass is always greener when you have vs have not. 9dreizig, With 3 residences (according to your sig) and 4 vehicles at your disposal, I don't think you're in the target audience MM advocates for. But the positive effects of some type of universal health care affects everyone and the economy. The devil will be in the details. Sherwood Last edited by 911pcars; 07-01-2007 at 01:15 PM..

Hey I'm all for universal health care on the contrary, I pay for my own and have just started my own business. $5000 deductible is that extensive?? . However,, I have a problem with him taking sick people to Cuba , to make it look like their program is better than ours.. I can also tell you the poor in this country don't get denied health care ( by law NO hospital can turn anyone away), also we have health care for the poor, it's called Medicare ( or is it Medicaid ?? I get the two confused)... It's the middle class that have it tough. Bottom line is we have the best medical care in the world here. My problem with him is his mixing of facts, lies of ommissions with others, and total scewing of the truth.. I'm originally a GM brat ( both white and blue collar relatives working there, as well as myself),, his blasting of the auto-industry was totally unfair ( and I'm not nor never was a Roger Smith fan),, and we don't even want to get into gun control..... Oh by the way, I own in NH, rent in NV and the bay area tends to be the Holiday Inn Express,,, ( much to my displeasure- but working on that) T

At the very least he is in the business of helping to raise public awareness about pressing social issues - and that is always a good thing. You may not like his style. You may not like his message. But he makes a valuable contribution.
