jon - it takes rabbits a long time to get used to you. they can be trained to use a litter box filled with alfalfa hay and newspaper underneath to absorb urine..change every several days. they are generally more like a cat than a dog. they like their space and usually prefer to come to you rather you to they. but, after so many years as my pet, lilbear followed me around the house and would often come to bedside, wanting to lay next to me for about 5 minutes or so..then he'd jump down and go sleep under the bed on my side. they're social animals.

We had rabbits (Holland and French Lops, Dutch ) for the 1st 10 years we were married, then switched to ferrets (we have 3 now) after our last rabbit died. They can be very affectionate and good pets provided that they are neutered (if male). all of our rabits were indoor rabbits, lived in big cages and used the litterbox. We used a litter called "Yesterday's News" made from recycled newspaper.

artt, how do ferrets compare to rabbits as pets? i've thought of having a dog again after i lose lilbear, but we'll see. i'm going to be devastated to lose him after having him simce he was a couple weeks old until ten years this september. i live alone..he's my family.
