Honest, Mr EPA, I didn't mean to pass your test...
While bumming around "teh intarweb" looking up A/C information, I stumbled across the EPA 609 MVAC certification tets that one must take to become certified in automotive A/C systems.
And then be legal to purchase R-12... Just think. For a mere $25, I can take the test, be legal to purchase R-12, and then deplete the Ozone with it. Scary thing? I only missed test exams by one question. With very little study effort, I could pass easily.

A lot of us have done it. Its not well known but a lot of people have done this and bought enough R-12 to last for a while and stocked it at home.

Yeah, but by becoming certified, you also are now subject to EPA regulations regarding automotive HVAC (ie. you cannot legally vent any refrigerant to atmosphere). With greater freedom comes greater responsibility and rightly so.

i have a r12 liscense. in fact, when i was younger i had an r12 powered bb machingun. it used the 1 pound bomb cans for the propellant.
worse, when i used to race my Grand national, i used a NOS sprayer to fog the intercooler with r12(holy crap did that work, like 35hp increase) the whole r12 thing was a scam, the patent was up, dupont knew that if they did not do something that they would lose this lucrative product..and voila, r134 is made and suddenly r12 is bad. Now they have the patent on r134 so things are status quo. ever wonder why all the r134 cans look the same? they are all Dupont, just labled different.
