Ultimate amateur Corvette C6 track-day car? 630hp 2750 lbs

Okay, it's not a Porsche, but you have to admire the craftsmanship and the end result. Worth scrolling through and drooling.

Katech's (Jason - engine builder) thread which compresses the owner's (Mike) threads from CorvetteForums:

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=639052

Basically, Mike has a C6 Z06 and starts by wanting a better 'track' car, but has remorse cutting up his Z06. So he decides to buy a brand-new 07 base C6 (steel frame, easier to weld a cage to), dropping in the LS7 crate motor from a Z06, and doing some simple track mods. But as we all know, it's a slippery slope....

"It started off as just a roll cage and harnesses then the project snowballed."

By the time the project is going, it's a full-on C6R replica without the rule restrictions. Not built for any specific class, this is just for him to race his buddies at his local track (Autobahn Country Club, Joliet, IL).

The end result is a 630+ hp Katech-built LS7 in a ~2750 pound Fall Line Motorsports race-prepped chassis. Money doesn't appear to be the object. Wow. I can only wish....

pretty gnarly... Corvettes don't really do it for me, but they sure make a great plaform for a project like that.

He's gonna' cry first time he has an "off pavement excursion".

It's a shame to track that craftsmanship in a way - it's too nice to trash.

Anyone take a guess at how much this project would cost? The car was ~$50,000 and Katech gets ~$30,000 for the motor. That's a start. How much for the rest?

Pretty cool, but he should have kept the stock exterior. Track stealth attack weapon.

Neat project...COST? Hmmmmm...remote reservoir shocks (cahching), custom suspension (chahching), carbon fiber panels (chaching), cage fabrication (chaching), paint (chaching), safety equipment (chahching), controls/seats (chahching), ...you get the idea.

I bet he's north of $150K before he realizes it.

Ahhhh....the wealthy. They're different from you and me.

Yup....THEY have money.
