My dad is a patent attorney, and it sure seems like quite a bit of work just to get a patent. From all the research to see if noone has the same idea and pending approval to the sheer technology of your patent.

Sweet. My cousin has a patent (something about sticky pads & gels for doing EEG work) , apparently you can get a coffee cup from the patent office that has the patent number, details, etc. on it...

Yep - actually got solicited for plaques, coffee cups and all sorts of memorabilia. Who wouldn't want a little something to brag about right? I figuer I will put it on the compaies dime. I think I will get a customary check for $10, a handshake and a few days worth of bragging rights.
