The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, "Hello. Mrs. Ward, please."
"Speaking."

"Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible."

"What do you mean?" asked Mrs. Ward nervously.
"Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's, and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which is your husband's."

"That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?" asked Mrs. Ward.
"Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay for these expensive tests one time."

"Well, what am I supposed to do now?" asked Mrs. Ward.
"The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."

I'm always amazed at the knee-jerk belligerance and name-calling that goes on in this forum.

First: I'm not trying to "get out" of paying taxes. I posed a simple question and sought input. If you read the other thread you will appreciate this. And the variety of the responses on that other thread at the very least demonstrates that the issue is not entirely clear.

Second: Even if I were trying to avoid taxes (which I'm not) there is nothing hypocritical about seeking to avoid a tax WHICH I BELIEVED I HAD ALREADY PAYED IN THE ALL INCLUSIVE PRICE I NEGOTIATED with the dealer - and being in favour of a fairer system of healthcare that better looks after CITIZENS who have no insurance. These two concepts have ZERO to do with one another.

Less belligerance and a some more nuanced thinking would go a long way here.

I like how you say things and think that makes them true. Illegal immigration has nothing to do with healthcare issue, you failing to read a sales contract is a "moral dillemma", you trying to get someone else to cover your sales tax responsibility is unrelated to your stance in healthcare(Shift one individual's financial liability onto someone who is not responsible for it, seems pretty similar to me).

You are not a Democratic Senator from California, New York or Massachusetts in cognito are you. I like your avoidance of arguments you can't win too. Someone makes a point you can't refute, you ignore it.

People who think like you make me understand how this country, California in particular, has gotten so messed up.

But we are not talking finite now are we and that's the point. Health Care for everyone is possible, the real debate is how best to do it. It won't be easy, it will have problems, but it's possible.

No in response to your argumant let's assume that we were under a system that you advocate. Suppose Bill's parents did not contribute to the bottom line of society to a degree that got Bill needed care at a critical point in his youth and that Bill never achieved adulthood or his potential.

His lose now has a negative affect/impact on society.

Your suggestion is short sighted and reactionary and not a benefit to the greater good.

actually France has a combo of gov't funded and private health insurance that seems to be rated very high in service. It's a kinda mix of US and full socialism. AFAIK it's also cost effective.

WTF? Doctors' incomes do not rise with the cost of healthcare. In fact, plenty of doctors are getting out of the business because if HMO's, defensive medicine and mediocre pay.

Do you really think your dermatologist made you wait just to be a pain in your a$s? And if you were able to get the same care from a family doctor, why not go to him in the first place? Most doctors I've dealt with have weird office hours because they have more than one office or spend half their time at a hospital. Blame the lawyers, yes. Don't blame the doctors.

Hey, if i put in all the years of school and paid what doctors pay to get educated (read that: Ripped off), i'd charge the prices they do too.

Lawyers however, and ambulance chasers specifically, yes....they are a scourge.
