Another Red Rug

It is begining to seem like I am able to find these things at will. This is a 10 X 12 Kashan probably 30 to 40 years old. The picture was probably taken under florscent light thus the bright red of the ground colour...But a nice rug never the less...

I am begining to wonder if the Click Here will ever work again????

Maybe to you, but I guess not to someone who knows their rugs.

How do you reasearch this stuff Tabs? Where did you learn how to spot a good rug, gun, spoon, etc. and tell it's probably worth XX?

Could you give us some examples on the rugs for instance?

LOL...and I suppose that there are people Down Under who think Wall to Wall Carpeting is Haute Culture... I guess that would be a step up from having Dirt Floors.

I like them because they are woven by hand*. I like the feel of the wool beneath my feet its so warm and soft. I am carefull about the designs in the rugs I choose, it has to be appealing to me.

I would rather have Hardwood, Stone or Tile Flooring with Oriental rugs on them than Wall to Wall...

* Many of these rugs take nearly a year or more to weave and the knot counts can be very high. I have seen Persian rugs go for 100K before.

Before I buy I talk to the Auctioneer and ask them questions about condition etc. I will have to wait and see the Rug to check its condition and fineness of Knot count. As I said its 10' X 12' Kashan. I think the picture was taken under a flourescent lighting that makes the Red appear to be very bright and almost garish.

The Auctioneer reallly didn't do any justice to this lot at all. Bad Labeling, Bad Digital Picture that was Distorted in its inatial viewing.

I used to hang out at Abels Auctions in LA, after awhile I was able to get on friendly terms with most of the Antique Dealers who went there. They knew me as a person who had a good eye for quality and value.

There is something about a quality object, it has depth to it. It intrigues on an intellectual or abstract level. The Maker of the item has put care and thought into its making.

As for Guns I have been at it for nearly 30 years, and have no hestitation in buying books on anything that interests me. Many times after a book goes outa print the books themselves become sought after and can go for many hundreds of $$$. After awhile the information in the head just adds up.

With Art and Spoons I didn't know jack, I started with a copy of Davenports Art Reference..which is a listing of Artists and their current Auction records. I had an eye for quality and went from there.

Right now I really don't know JACK about Rugs and probably will never know much about them. I have met guys that could practically tell you which village made which rug. Each Village has its own signature or Trademark in the style of the design. I have a copy of "Oriental Carpet Design" by PRJ Ford, its as good of a primer as I could find. When U start looking through the book trying to compare a Rug your looking at everything appears to be the same, and U go what the fk..it could be this one or it could be that one, what is the fking dif.

Well I'm at the point I can tell that the difference in the shape of the Medallion indicates where the dam thing was made. The Kashan has a Diamond shaped Medallion and a Sarouk Medallion has a more rounded style similar to the Meshed. That only took me about an hour of comparing one picture to the next. I guess U just have to start looking at these things all the time. I think if U asked Rick Cabal about early Porsches he would tell U the same thing. After awhile you just get to know.

Is this cynicism or sarcasism...or cynical sarcasism...U can take the cynicism and shove it, it doesn't become U. It makes U appear retarded not clever nor smart. Partially because your not engaging me in the joke, your essentially talking to yourself with your nosequitar oneliners.

Just proves how 'unworldly' you actually are. You aren't as smart as you'd like to think you are. While I cuddle up to my gorgeous blonde haired, blue-eyed Nordic princess tonight, I'll think of you cuddled up on your rug next to your........camel.
