The closest to Steve McQueen is his son, there isn't an actor out there today who could hold a candle to him.

Bruce Willis.

McQueen, Newman, Redford and so on... the new generation are no where near the man that the old guys were and some still are. |

Mark Wahlberg, just a name that came to mind.
But I agree with Racerbvd, don't think anyone out there today is the equal of McQueen, definitely a tough guy and could do it all. He was the real thing, no role playing there. |
Mark Walhberg is cool, but his acting career seems a little manufactured to me.
He was good in Boogie Nights though... What is the deal with everyone hating on Matt Damon? Is he "gay" because he is a good looking, pretty sort of guy? In the new movie he looks like he is gaining weight and looking older pretty fast.... How about Johnny Depp? yeah, he doesnt race or anything but is a pretty good actor, and he often takes offbeat roles where he doesnt use his star power or looks.... also Sean Penn is pretty cool... Bruce Willis, i couldnt agree with this as I met him before, and he was not really that cool.... |
Wesley Snipes
Vin deisel: in a kick your azz sorta way. |
Jude Law

In order to be cool, one must be very much an individual. True to themself. Therefore, it would be impossible for anyone to be "the new Steve McQueen", just as Steve was not the "new James Dean" or the "new Gary Cooper", etc...
There is never a shortage of interesting people on the planet, the trick for these movie stars is to be cool at all when you are paying that much attention to yourself. There is something gay about that, even for Steve McQueen. Being stoned on good weed 24/7 like McQ can make anyone seem pretty sanguine and "I don't give a schit" cool. |

McQueen being funny on Whats My Line in 1966. (wow Arlene Francis was a total MILF, hard to believe she is almost 60 here) |

Thinking about it, it's possible that the reason why we don't have any more McQueens or Deans or Waynes or even Ted Williamses has a lot to do with the lack of a private life for any of these celebrities. Thanks to People, Star, Access Hollywood, Extra, etc., we know everything about these people, completely removing any semblance of mystification or mystery.
Interesting that my choice for the modern-day man-of-legend is the one guy who stays out of the public spotlight... |

Which may also explain why most celebrity-types today are attention-seeking pansies. |
I like Wahlberg.....tough South Boston guy? Or is that a movie persona?

Still, I believe in redemption so he gets a second chance. FWIW, his brother Donnie is the better actor. Check him out sometime. |
Bullitt comes on AMC in just a few minutes 8PM EST. SmileWavy

OK...I see he's producing "Entourage" on HBO.....except for the accents...I grew up with those guys.... |
Chase scene on right now!!!!!

C'mon, how can anyone knock Matt Damon? Everytime I see him on TV, the guy seems humble and down to earth. Always struck me as somebody you could just shoot the bull with at a bar. Not something I would say about 99% of Hollywood types.
|
He's not an actor but Jay Leno is pretty cool and a car guy... and he spun a CGT but didn't crash it... and if he did crash it he would have paid for it. ;)
