Put Your Porsche To Shame

Yep the car pictured BELOW is just a 67 Ford Galaxy, but if ya should see this car sittin next to ya a a stop light duck for cover or be humilated. You ask how in the world can a 67 Ford Galaxy of all things humilate a proud Porsche. Well for starters the thing has a Ford 427 SOHC motor in it, thats 675 HP normally apirated with 2 Holleys. Sorry I didn't get a pic of the motor in the BEAST. The Ford SOHC motor is the one that NASCAR wouldn't allow Ford to run in 66.

Yes - it makes perfect sense to compare a 40 year old Ford with an oversized boat anchor for an engine to something like..........this. OH THE HUMILIATION! I could'nt bear it.

Sure, I've no doubt it will go fast in a straight line.... but horsepower is for those who can't keep the speed up in the corners. Wonder how that Ford would do at Deals Gap, etc...

Different strokes for different folks. I'd take the Galaxy...there once was one of the "cammer" Fords in this town...pretty cool stuff. One probably is worth a mint these days.

My dad used to tell me stories of growing up in NC, in Richard Petty's hometown, and the car culture there. He said that the state police in NC had Galaxie pursit cars that were essentially factory race cars. Aluminum front bodywork and a 428CJ motor with two of the headlights removed and used as ram-air intakes. Not too easy to outrun those.

I'd jump on on that car!! awesome engine. My faves the Fairlane but Ford never but that 427 in it.

Mo,

You must be kidding...A good running turbo will kick the poop out of most of those cars. None of them in there day ran better than 13's in the quarter. Driven built camaros, big blocks, small blocks, fast bugs. nothing ever came close to a 87 turbo I drove..It was Forkin scary fast ....and stop on a dime.

Put that SOHC in a Cobra and all the Porsche will see is tail lights receding into the distance...Problem is that the Cobra also becomes a DEATH WISH...

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/define-1964-ford-thunderbolt.htm

Extensive front-end modifications were necessary to custom-fit the big-block, and eight equal-length exhaust headers had to be snaked through the suspension components. The competition 427's high-rise manifold elevated the air cleaner above the fender line, requiring a teardrop-shaped hood bubble. It gulped air via screened inner headlight bezels. Transmissions were a Hurst-shifted four-speed with 4.44:1 gears or an automatic with 4.58:1. Massive traction bars, asymmetrical rear springs, and a trunk-mounted 95-pound bus battery helped get down what was realistically 500 bhp.

Weightcutting was merciless: plexiglass windows and fiberglass front body panels, bumpers, and doors. Sunvisors, mirror, sound-deadener, armrests -- even jack and lug wrench -- were shed.

The back seat stayed, but the fronts were lightweight Econoline truck buckets. At 3225 pounds, the T-bolt weighed more than a stock Fairlane. But it was only 20 pounds over its NHRA-class minimum. At last, Ford had a winner. ETs in the 11s earned Thunderbolt the Top Stock crown and Ford the '64 NHRA Manufacturer's Cup.

Looks like the thunderbolt was a '64 deal. The 427 was still available in '67 though.

That doesn't look like a Galaxy to me.

Looks more like the Mercury Cyclone, which was the sister car to a Fairlane.

BTW, they did put a 427 in a Fairlane. Had fiberglass bumpers and aluminum body work, and the 427 SOHC "side-oiler" IIRC.
