What is Your Funniest Craigslist story??

so what is your funniest Craigslist story?

here's mine:

one time i was going to pick up a "free tire" advertised on Craigslist. It was in a local town, near my work place. I figured I could sell it on ebay for a quick 40 bucks.

so i called the guy in the AM before heading out to work and got directions.
I was going to stop after work to his house and pick it up

so i leave work at 5:30 heading to his house.. but it was raining so damn hard I couldn't see any road signs or street signs. I could barely see the road in front of me. so after driving around for 15 minutes, I got lost and said F this, i'm going home.

so 2 days later. he calls " hey, you still want the free tire?"
i said " you still got it?"

he goes "yeah, it's been sitting in front of my lawn since the day you said you were coming by to pick it up"

so i told him..."ok, I'm coming again tomorrow"

I never went... ha ha

Once I was out with a girl I met on CL and while walking with her, crossed paths with another girl I had picked up there a few weeks earlier. She was very cool, totally recognized me and knew what was going on but pretended to not know me.

I was giving away some garage sale leftovers just before Christmas. Lots of really nice, like new toys that just didn't sell. Within minutes of putting up the post a woman called and said she and her boyfriend were on their way from the other side of town to pick up the stuff. She begged me not to give it to anyone else.

Forty five minutes later the phone rings. It's the woman saying they're lost... then the call gets dropped. The phone rings again. I hear her voice mixed with static and the call gets dropped again. This happened over and over. We had a brief connection where I was able to give her some landmarks before the call dropped again. I was hanging out in the driveway trying to call her back when I see a small truck go by our street with a woman on a cell phone in the passenger seat - but, they kept on going down the side street. I'm thinking that was them, but not sure.

A few minutes later she gets through for another brief call where I hear her say, "That's it! We're going home!" I'm about ready to start calling the numbers on my back up list when the small truck rounds the corner onto my street. I assume that has to be them so I start walking to the curb and wave. They don't even slow down! Well, maybe that wasn't them after all. As I'm about to go into the house the truck comes back down the street and slows to a stop. It took them a couple of minutes to calm down. Seems the boyfriend had been trying to get her to give up, but she really wanted the stuff. She looked through the boxes and started crying. Turns out she had several neices and nephews and couldn't afford to buy them Christmas gifts. I couldn't count how many times they said, "Thank you" before they left.

You call this funny? Its a$$wipes like this who leave people hanging for hours or days holding onto something when they never show up who give CL a bad name. He was trying to give you something for free and you screw him by wasting his time. Why? What did he do to you? You were trying to make some free money off of him and you screwed him! What a man you are!

Nothing pisses me off more than someone who has something to give away and posts "its on the curb, come and pick it up, not going to talk to anyone on the phone or emails"... then you drive 30 minutes to pick it up and its gone. They stopped holding things because of incidents like this and I totally understand after posts like this.

I tried to give away some things a few months ago and had an a$$wipe like you do the same thing. The next day I gave up and contacted the second person in line and they stopped by to pick the things up in a few hours. Two days later the jerk called and asked if he could stop by and pick up the stuff. I hung up on him and hope he got the message.

My time is just as important as anyone elses, and when someone wastes my time my sense of humour gets very short.

Off Ramp, this really shows what type of person you are and not at all surprised. When are you going to grow up?

I had a bad time on Craigslist trying to give away a nice table, old Mac computer, concrete Buddha that was gold leafed (don't ask - old girlfriend) and some other things for FREE!

I tried to be reasonable and stated I would hold it for the first person to respond for each item. I don't remember how many people I went through who said they would absolutely pick up the stuff and then never showed up or called for days. I finally just put all the stuff at the curb and said "first come, first served" and the stuff was gone in a few hours.

Some people even got pissed off I didn't hold an item for them AFTER I gave them a fair shot and waited relatively patiently. The worst attitude came from a young girl who was exceptionally rude that she did not get the gold concrete buddha; Karma at work I guess.

I don't think I have ever wasted so much time and effort trying to GIVE nice stuff away and will not do it again.

Best,

Kurt

Patrick, (aka jerk with your Fred Sanford comment)

Yes, when people like myself and Kurt try to help people by passing things along for free, then people like Off Ramp say they will come by and take it, then on purpose lie about stopping by and waste our time, its not correct.

Do you like it when someone wastes your time? If so then you and OR should get together and enjoy wasting each others time.

In hindsight, it's probably not a good idea to put "free" items on CL because of all of the no-shows. Maybe a "riff-raff" filter of $5 or $10 bucks would help eliminate the flakes?

Best,

Kurt

Wow. This is definitely something that I would describe as funny. One time a guy on craigslist called me to come get my old computer for $10. I left work early, and he never showed. I swear, my wife and I had such a great laugh that night.

This could be the dumbest thing I've ever seen on OT. what an *********.

Free stuff on CL is excellent. Picked up a carport tent a few weeks ago. tenant had moved out and left a ton of stuff (tent and loads of crap) for the landlord to clean up, a nice older gentleman. Moved a VW beetle sized mound of junk from around back to the curb for trash pick-up. He was happy, I was happy.

Do I agree with what On Ramp did? No. Do I think your response was over the top? Yes. As far as wasting time, this is OT and anyone spending time here, especially on this thread, is doing just that.

At the moment I have an Ampeg 4x12 cabinet listed on CL. I've probably gotten 7-8 emails from people saying they absolutely want it. This leads me to believe I have it priced too low, but I'm still getting $100 more than my dad paid for it when I was 15 in 1986. It's been a week now and the emails keep coming, but no one has showed up with the money yet.

Agreed and I love CL. Picked up enough pavers (12x12 bricks) to do a patio and carport at my house and saved almost $1000 in the process. You can find a lot of good stuff there but there is a lot of crap there as well.
