Baseball is a game for statisticians...that said, I do like it. Always have, since listening to games on my bedroom 5 tube radio back in the 50's. Heros with names like Yogi Berra, Willie Mays, Stan Musial, Hank Sauer, and others...

May the game continue...

Mid to high 60s for HR's just don't happen, and 70 is historically absurd. Except for during that 4 year period, when 3 suddenly massively huge guys consistently did it. Then it suddenly stopped, just as quickly as it started.

I agree wholeheartedly with you pwd72s...it is/was a game of statistics for me when I was in my youth. I distinctly remember listening to Hank chase the record back in '74, on crappy long distance radio broadcasts. Hence, THE's post simply tells it all from a statistical perspective imo... I could care less about Bonds, or baseball anymore.

ps: Bonds was a HOF'er from the git-go (his father Bobby, was one of my dad's favorites way back when, so I've always noticed Barry), but he is what he is :(

He's trying to get back the votes of "real baseball fans" who also gave up on him :)

in the post game interview he forgot to thank his pharmacist.

JonT 08-08-2007 07:15 PM

anyone catch the post game interview when he said 'this record is not tainted' his eyes looked away involuntarily just for a moment before he spoke. Isnt this a classic lying give away?

trekkor 08-08-2007 07:57 PM

The President did call to congratulate today.

He hit another one tonight.

Not bad for an "old dude". Three bombs in five games

I guess I'd only really care if he was on something if I was pitching to him ;)

You'd really care if he was a Dodger.

Sports needs more gentlemen like Bobby Jones. Played golf wearing a tie, and did things like this:

Bobby Jones, 1925 U.S. Open

The situation: On a greenside chip from a steep bank, Jones' ball moved ever so slightly just before impact.

The penalty: Rule 18-1 poses this question and answer: "Q. A ball lying in long grass slips vertically downward. Or a ball is accidentally stepped on and pressed down, say a quarter of an inch, in the grass or into the ground. In each case, has the ball moved? A. Yes, unless the ball returns to its original position. The direction of movement is immaterial."

The result: Even though nobody else saw the ball move, Jones called a 1-stroke penalty on himself. Because of this, he failed to win the tournament outright, instead dropping into a playoff with Willie Macfarlane, which he lost in 36 holes.
