Keep your damn marshmallow comments to yourselves please - Porsche flambe
The 951 has officially gone the way of all things flammable.
To that great ash bin in the sky. RIP. You'll be missed my non-flame-resistant love. You brought enjoyment and warmth to my soul while we were together. And also to my ass, as you proved yesterday. May you be at peace in the hereafter. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics - it's all I had on me at the time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone interested in a slightly crispy hulk-o-951 or perhaps an assortment of spectacular smoked slightly-singed Stuttgart specialty spare stuff - the vulture feeding frenzy will probably commence soon. I gotta' figure out what I'm doing with what's left of my pride and joy. . . More at eleven.

Is this the same 951 offered to the person who drove a I.C.E van to the Signal Hill Home Depot? Do you think a disgruntled day laborer planted a burrito on the turbocharger? Have you contacted CNN, MSNBC, Jerry Springer?

Sorry to see that. |

Oh s***. I'm sorry, Jeff. Wow.
But I can't help but joining the chorus of "Is there a story?"

Let's guess, Porsche 944/951, engine compartment fire...
Those brittle 20 year old fuel lines finally gave up eh? If I had to choose the most likely cause that would be my bet and the reason I changed the lines on my 944 to the braided hoses - the old hoses that came off were truely nasty! Sorry to see that, but what are you getting next?

FD seemed to think it was electrical initially, but I'll try to figure out more today when I go visit it.
The routing of the fuel lines on late 944s and 951s is absolutely idiotic however - I'm sure it didn't help matters even if it didn't directly cause it. The 924s and early 944s ran the fuel lines up the middle of the body and to the fuel rail from the back of the engine, not directly over the exhaust headers like the late 944s/951s. How Porsche considered the re-routed design an "improvement" when the cars were re-designed in 1985 has always been something of a head-scratcher for me. The early cars have metal lines pretty much all the way up to the fuel rail too - not the half-rubber/half-metal ones that the late cars do. . . Yea, I had an extinguisher on board but by the time I was able to stop safely it's very unlikely I'd have been able to put the fire out with it - would have been more dangerous to try at that point. Have to call insurance co today and see how much B.S. they're going to put me through. If it's too much of a hassle or they're going to jack my rates up as a result of this (or drop the policy, either of which I wouldn't put past them) I may just sell it straight-out to a parter without putting a claim in. More later.

Still, I think I might carry one in both my cars. I have one in the old Geo Tracker because I had been working on the fuel tank. One for the Porsche might be a good idea.

No Jeff at Happy Hour?
Poor Jeff,
No Jeff at Happy Hour??????Go out to my car at 7:30 with Milt and there is a message on my phone like this.. "Bob... sorry I couldn't make it!..I had a problem!....My car is burning up a block away from you! Sorry! I cant make it. If you get a chance, make a left out of the parking lot a drive a block to where the fire trucks are... Sorry! ....Jeff" He actually said this...Sorry he couldnt make it.... ![]() I am saying to myself WTF..So I drive over and there are cops everywhere and firemen. I drove through the runway tunnel and did a U turn and came back and parked...Car is frickin cremated...I introduce myself to Jeff and he has this very pleasant demeanor. Hey Bob (The nicest Guy) Not alarmed. I would be having a fit if it was mine. OH Well! I guess that's life attitude. Jeff will live to be 160 years old. Anyway- Jeff and I left the scene and did some high speed runs in downtown Long Beach in my turbo (at his request). Jeff, After I left your house I ended up going over the Vincent Thomas bridge and was slightly delayed getting home last night. Went bed at 12PM and back up at 3AM. But I'm here at work. Sorry Buddy- Bob
