It's former FBI Director Mueller's notes on what he knew of Gonzales's visit to AG Ashcroft while the latter was in hospital. Gonzales testified to the Congressional committee that there was no pressuring of Ashcroft to renew warrantless wiretapping. So why was Ashcroft "feeble, barely articulate, clearly stressed" after the meeting?

You can tell when Gonzales is lying: his mouth is moving.
He avoids this in many cases by being unable to remember a thing he's ever done. I nominate him for "Worst Anchor Baby of the Decade." ---------edit----------- The press is bent so far over backward to avoid criticizing this administration that you have to go to editorials to find indisputable facts about lies and omissions by the AG. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/31/AR2007073101924.html

Is "El Lay" somewhere in Iran? You're kidding, right? Bush could balance the budget, cure world hunger, build a southern fence by hand, and single-handedly defeat terrorism, but the media would still lead with a negative article. Not saying that things in Washington are really going well right now (on either side), but saying the media is pro-Bush is insane.

Matt:
I do not agree. There have been other presidents that have had some good press. If there were consistency in the current administration, in my opinion, there would be less "Bush bashing" (a term used far too often). It is the lack of progress on certain things that seems to be at the core of the "unrest" of the public. An example is border security. While a difficult and complex problem, the lack of activity in a meaningful sense bothers people. The situation following disasters like Hurricane Katrina seems to indicate that the government cannot even react to domestic problems. Right or wrong, the perception is there, and the press really isn't all that involved. Look at the positive press GWB got after our initial victories in Afghanistan and Iraq. "Mission Accomplished". It was only after much of the situation deteriorated that the press became negative. Bush I followed the advice of General Powell after the first Gulf War. "You break it, you bought it". Gulf War II has proven that to be true. Powell was ignored. By his own admission, he was even misinformed. And, ultimately, left the administration. Under what circumstances, I will not even guess. From that point on, the rationale for the invasion of Iraq morphed from one reason to another. That is what I am refering to when I say the Administration lacks consistency and, in some cases, honesty. I will not even get into other areas such as the economy, only to say it is good or bad depending on where you are on the earnings scale. I am old enough to remember the Nixon Years and this looks quite similar.
