2600 corner - iPhone hacked (yes, it CAN be unlocked. . . )

In case you really hate AT&T and want to go with another carrier (unfortunately T-Mobile is the only other U.S. carrier with a compatible network to my knowledge), check out what this kid did:

NOT an easy hack, but it CAN be done. Happy iPhone-ing.

Boy I feel like a dolt.

How bright is this kid!!

It took me years of college just to understand the stuff this guy already knows at 18...

Glad I went into managing electrical engineers........

Typically a boot loader, which is what is hacked to load new code, would have to go back to the factory to be reprogrammed.

It handles all the communication, handshake etc. with whatever is doing the download.

This sounds like an inside job.

Lots written about this already. His hack involves a little bit of soldering. Theres supposed to be a SW only hack released today, selling for $35-50, but the legal eagles at AT&T have squashed that so far.

The blog is worth a read to understand how little I understand.
