An Ugly Topic: Is anyone bored with Pelican?
I've been here for awhile now and I'm beginning to see what others have described as the same ol', same ol'. The 911 board moves so fast that in 24 hours there are 2 pages of new threads to read, but none too inspiring, with an exception or two.
Maybe it's time for us old guys to step aside and let the newer members help even newer members. I don't know. Anyone else getting this feeling? I still like my car. ![]() |

I've been here a good while. I obviously don't post often and yet I never get tired of this place. I used to think I knew everything, as the old sarge said on Stallag whatever it was "I know nothing" and still check in every day year after year.

I still find interesting threads here and there, and I'm sure I miss some interesting stuff, but I feel like most of the time to find all of the interesting threads requires wading through lots of other stuff. I'll keep coming back though. I have to live vicariously through you folks. ![]()

I have a good time in four forums here.
I like to post while "watching" a movie or TV. ![]() KT

Not bored so much, maybe frustrated, I will not lie, I spend 99% of my time in O/T, if my 911 was giving me problems I would be in the tech sections, but it does not. So I glance at the tech section to see what the "hot problem" of the week is then move on to O/T to see what is up.
My frustration lies in certain members (moderators) who are non-existent in O/T suddenly appear and crap all over someone then leave. And if I see one more 3rd person thread I am punching my monitor!

Honestly, how much do you really need the tech board when you've DIY'ed just about everything there is to do on a 911 over 5-6 yrs? The tech info just gets better and better, but the older members need it less and less. It's still a great resource. Anyone who's a new 911 owner should love the tech board.

I haven't been over to the tech forum in years. And my participation over here in OT has slackened considerably.
New hobbies, new priorities, and less whiners elsewhere. |

Milt, don't give up on us! Besides, I am eagerly awaiting an update on Skunkworks.

I enjoy the tech forum, engine overhaul, parts for sale, and a little of this one. I am on here at least 4 times a week. It is practically impossible to see every post but I hit what I think are the interesting ones. If you miss one of interest, as you know, if it is good it will pop back up to the top eventually and, if lucky, you can catch it.
Fairly new here and have only had my 911 for two years or so and I really get a lot out of the tech forum and engine forum. Plus I have made some good buys here as well. I have had a 356 for 25+ years but did not know about Pelican until the hunt was on for a 911. I think the tech info is, in a way, more useful to those with more mechanical experience as you can more easily weed out the BS or the guys attempting to justify a mistaken job or purchase. And, OH, to answer the question - not tired. Guess I am still to much one of the new guys. Last edited by BertBeagle; 08-24-2007 at 07:28 PM.. Reason: forgot to answer the original question - old fart here. |

Actually, I am glad someone had the stones to post this; thank you. The answer to your question is Yes. I am a bit bored too. When I had my 944 I lived sort of vicariously through the board. When I was looking for a car I was very interested in the topics and the once I bought my 911 I enjoyed posting about the things I was doing to it. Now? It is largely done (if that is possible). Ironically, I now have a boring (but free!) company car and so I hardly drive my car. I also have a Dodge Ram Quadcab 4x4 that I drive on vacation, etc. I get a charge out of driving my 911 but it is SO FRIGGIN HOT all summer, I haven't been able to drive it much for awhile. And yes, I am tired of the same old, same old discussions that the new guys admittedly must bring up. No fault, its just that it seems Ive heard the same subjects covered a lot.

Not bored at all. In fact, I love this site.
There are some talented people on this board. Its nice to have access to a group with such diverse technical and professional skills. Glad the political BS has calmed down a bit lately. |

Maybe you guys need one of these.
![]() ![]() I'm new, I try to search for answers to my issues, but can't always find them and will ask for help. I also enjoy posting my projects. Sometimes new ways of doing something are found. Besides, in the digital age, you can never have too many pictures! Dave

C'mon, OT never gets boring. There's always someone ready to post something new and idiotic.
As for the tech board, they need guys like you Milt. Those that have "been there, done that" are what make the 911 BBS so great. Guys who have done damn near everything to their cars, and are happy to share the knowledge, expecially for strange or rare issues. The knowledge on the 911 board might be equaled elsewhere, but not topped.

Like everything, Pelican moves in waves, in cycles. If you were to track my posts, you would probably see them in bunches, with segments of inactivity between.

So, I've pretty much stopped posting there. Off topic is still semi-amusing, not quite so repetitive. Well yeah...but I kind of thought it was me...deciding to sell my P-car, with zero desire to buy another... But perhaps it's more than that?

This site has a more mature and intelligent group than most and it's still entertaining for me even though I'm now without 911. We do however have a BMW in the family, so I'm relevant to off topic.

Unless you're on the typical OT thread which quickly devolves into a political thread usually involving accusations of, "You're a poo poo head!...No, YOU'RE a poo poo head!"

I don't read those threads. I'm not a political person. They are all losers regardless of party. I reached voting age in 1974, have never voted in any presidential election, and refuse to until I see someone worth standing in line for.
