And his friend started a church. No way he would lie.

Wow, you guys are fast! Are you in liberal politics? If not, you've missed your calling. Someone has an opinion that doesn't agree with your agenda? Quick, attack them and make it a personal issue, maybe the dissenting opinion will go away!

These were the people he came into contact with, the pumping stations were apparently in predominantly poor neighborhoods. Laugh all you want about the flashlight comment, I suggest you let somebody bash you over the head with an 8-cell Maglite and see how funny it is. Might do you some good.

Oh no, did I just say that?! Now I might get e-beat up by some e-tough guys! Hey Mule, if it's so safe and utopian down there, why were you carrying a gun?

Got a Mag Light. Mine's a 6 cell. It reaches from my armpit to my wrist (Way too big to carry). I've never hit anybody with it but I did offer to install it in a private investigators ass once (bad divorce). You should have told your friend, if he felt threatened, all he had to do was click his heels together repeatedly while saying, there's no place like home, there's no place like home. See if it works in the 9th ward like it does in Kansas!

Nobody said it was utopian. That's the point.

Name calling now. So you have something against a Liberal? That's an insult of some sort, since you have no real facts to offer? Well, except for the flashlight.

No I'm not a Liberal and no politics for me. And anyone is entitled to their own opinion, just not their own facts. And the fact is that NOT EVERYONE down there is looking for a handout.

There are a LOT of pumping stations in the entire area. Even in non predominantly poor neighborhoods, if you can imagine that.

Confirmed by the Mag light web site. Never made an 8 cell. Poor information or lies? You make the call!

Hey Pup, I heard everybody in KS believes in the wizard of Oz. Can you prove me wrong?

Mule, he's probably thinking of Kel Light. I still have my old 8-cell 12v bat from the late 70's. Have busted out a few windows with that old pup.

Mag made a 7-cell back in the 70's as well.

There is an article in the NY Times today on the aftermath of Katrina, "Insurer's Bear Brunt of Anger in New Orleans". I found it quite informative. It covers some of the complexities of the situation. (Front page)

I would encourage everyone to read it, google NYTimes and take the time to read the article.

I don't have a dog in this hunt but i found the article educational and it answered some questions I had on the situation.

Roux, my point was I don't think anybody's carrying one of those big beasts while working. Mine used to reside between the seats. Just a little light on the accuracy of info from all these psychics.

Ooooooh, you sure showed me! Perhaps I should have stated "large tube-shaped flashlight", as opposed to using a recognizable name such as Maglite? Damn, there goes my entire statement!

As for the Wizard of Oz, c'mon now. Show me what you got, surely you can be more creative than that?

Given two accounts of the situation: one from some guy who has visited a few times, another from someone that has spent several months on the ground in NO, working for FEMA. Which is more informed? Which is more relevant? I'm eagerly awaiting your response as to how my neighbor really didn't see any of what he described to me. It may not be "everyone", but it is a widespread issue.

Visit a couple of times? I've lived there over 16 years and did so up until this past January. My in-laws have lived there for 90 years+....

So where did he get this information THAT EVERYONE is waiting for a government handout? Chertoff give it to him directly? Or was it O'l Brownie as Bush called him as he patted him on the back for such a job well done? Gee, no one involved with FEMA would be biased in how they represented the situation after doing such a good job down there....

You better go review a few things with your all knowing neighbor and coime back with some facts rather than second hand hear-say. It's truly pathetic you can't see the stupidity of a statement such as "Everyone down there is waiting for a handout" and actually want to continue your lame azz argument like it's a fact.
We've rebuilt 3 houses in our own family without one stinking red cent from the Government. My gripe is that the insurance company only paid about 60% of what they should have paid, and the Governent is not only responsible for the faulty levees but also in letting the Insurer's get away with that crap.

Did anyone read the NYTimes article? Red and Mule, I'd like to hear your comments on this

"Several lawsuits here and in Mississippi accuse insurance companies of trying to overstate flood damage so that taxpayers would pick up more of the tab through the federal flood insurance program, which has paid out $13 billion in Louisiana. These contentions have prompted several federal investigations. In other cases, customers are arguing that the companies used deceptive business practices, putting pressure on engineers and insurance adjusters and deliberately underestimating the costs of repairs.

Industry spokesmen say that most homeowners are satisfied and that 99 percent of homeowners’ claims have been settled. Any problems stemmed from the huge size of the disaster, they contend, or from homeowners’ failure to buy adequate insurance or to read their policies carefully. Rising rates, they say, reflect a more realistic sense of the risk homeowners assume by living in dangerous coastal areas."

Most homeowners are satisfied? What a load that is.

OMFG....... Satisfied in WHOSE eyes?? and of course the fine print........ uh, so you had flood insurance?, well, this was natural disaster not a flood....... or...... Oh, you have damage insurance?, oh, but this was a flood....... ETC, ETC......

I can say, I have seen the adjusters go both ways.......... oh, you have one shingle missing???, you get an entire new roof!, or give the homeowner $150.00 to repair the damaged shingle.

OK how's this. 6" of water on the first floor, most of it due to roof being gone. Ins co refusing to fix damage on second floor, stating damage due to flood water. The most effective approach seemed to be putting some cabbage in the adjustor's pocket. 3 dollars solved many problem. For the uninitiated or pricipaled this did present a problem though.

Reading comprehension obviously isn't big in your parts. On one of the first pages of this masterpiece of monkeys throwing poo, I stated that I respected the hell out of those that picked themselves up and rebuilt. I also stated that my neighbor is a retired civil engineer. He's only working for FEMA as a contractor. He's almost done with his assignment, and WON'T be going back. So yes, I do believe him. He has no vested interest, and no motivation to lie.

RB, if your family picked themselves up and rebuilt, I would think you would be most disgusted by the entitlement crowd. If you worked your asses off to get them back on their feet, why should others simply wait for the govt to do it for them? Obviously there are cases of those that were not able, but this is not the problem here.

For the record: you can buy two-cell extensions for mag-lites. You could make a 6, 8, or 10-cell mag-lite if you are so inclined...

Do you mean the ones looking for a handout by expecting safe levees, or the ones looking for a handout by expecting the govt to make the ins co.'s follow the law?

Legion, I might have to make an aluminum pugle stick to beat away the panhandlers.

I give up, have fun with your thread. There's no point in debating an issue with someone who can't even handle reading what you write. Sure makes it easy from your side though, if you never read what others write you always feel like you win the argument.

You should give up. I have read what you write. It's just wrong. When I start telling you about KS & Sammy about OC then you guys will be in the position to slap me around. But to try & compare news & other second hand accounts to those of people living here every day will have you looking bad.
