how much music do you really need?????? what, 50 albums at.one.time. aren't enough for you?? puhh-lease.... you must've been REALLY bored before mp3's huh?

It's not that I NEED that much music...but it is really nice to have the ability to have it all at once. Having my entire library at the tip of my finger is extremely convenient. I have an mp3 cd player in my car, and even though I can hold nearly 100 songs per CD, i still find myself carrying around 5-10 different discs depending on what kind of mood I'm in, who is in the car with me, etc. And right now my iPod is in use between 2-4 hours a day on average and its nice not to have to continually move songs on and off of it. Throw in the added video capability (of which full length movies are anywhere from about 500mb-1gb) and I can hit the capacity of the iTouch easily. I would rather wait for the capacity to go up before I buy.

Oh and I don't remember too much before mp3's, cuz im only 19 and had my first mp3 player in 7th grade. 64mb, $400. Its amazing how fast technology changes.

who's acting smug? Just fending off potshots at someone who lives to take potshots. The iPhone is the best convergence device I've ever used. Period. It is far from perfect, but I've owned and used every iteration of Windows Mobile (iPaq, HTC hardware, etc). Sorry, but this is just in a different league imho. But it also depends how you use your devices. For the first time I have been able to drop down to a single device instead of having a phone, a data device, ipod, etc. But mostly it is the elegance of the UI and the way that will change the way people think about how they deal with their data and how software gets developed. And the aesthetic.

Then again, I wouldn't expect an engineer to really grok that ;)

Oh wait, that's me being smug. Or accurate. Not sure which :p

I hear a rumor that you can unlock the pos now is that true?

The topic was 'the latest buzz.'

5 years of "buzz" ?!? . ..Did you just get out of the clink?

Also note the market cap on those two. ;)

Yup, five years of buzz is about right - that's what I would call the incredible growth of AAPL.

Yes, MSFT has a larger mkt. cap but perhaps you should take a look at market cap growth over the last five years. AAPLs almost two times bigger than DELL in this regard and should eclipse MSFT in a few years, IMHO.

Sorry Apple bothers you so much and sorry you and others have nothing to do except ridicule folks who simply really like a company's products. Your behavior appears childish, FWIW.

Read it and weep:

Ouch. That hurts, considering I put $60K in AAPL in Spring '02, only to pull it out after the iPod announcement :-0

But it goes a long way toward explaining the haters: they probably put their money in one or more of the other four stocks.

You crack me up. Seriously! :) Hopefully you are just yanking some chains and I'm pretty sure you understand what a "cult" is.

At least I have something to like. You're just bothered that Apple folks like their stuff. It is just "stuff" you know?

Best,

Kurt

island911 09-06-2007 07:12 PM

I said cult-like. --not that it IS a cult.

See the image. Can you for a second expect that would 'work' with a microsoft logo?

I'm try'n to help you guys see the absurdity of it all. Quite simply Jobs screwed-up. You can accept that he screwed up here, or continue to defend that your emperor's clothes are macaroni.

I mean really, do you think this "open letter" was all part of his super terrific brilliant plan? Do you think sales have been as high as hoped for?

Jobs likes to shock people. He also REALLY want's to hit some magic number of sales, apparently. ...and so we have what we have here.

It IS just stuff, yet it has religious type zealotry. . ..maybe more like a sports team following. --People throw up stat's to show "their team" Apple is winning in some "most improved" category. They go on about the brilliance of their team captain. . . .and those brilliant plays. Hey, where's the instant replay?

Damn that's a funny gif. :D

You know what makes me nuts. YOU start more of these debates than anyone else on this board.

You toss your little dirt bombs over the fence and then give us crap for throwing them back.

If you don't want to hear it then I suggest YOU stop bringing it up.

The competition exists with Nokia and their N800 (N800 has 2x the screen res of the iphone, better skype phone w/ video, but less internal memory)

Like I poked a finger in your i. Dude, this was significant news.

Yes, I think Apple screwed up with the $200 reduction in such a short time - hence the $100 credit. The jury is still out on why they did this. Neither you nor I truly know the reason of the reduction; slow sales or a stab at market share? Who knows?

The sports team analogy seems reasonable. Or folks who love cars, put their car model in there signature line and nickname themselves after their favorite model perhaps?

The picture is funny. :D

Kurt

Ohhh. . . Nice dig, Kurt. :D Though, for a Porsche board, it seems appropriate.

dd74 09-06-2007 08:12 PM

Island - I think you need to realize that Apple is creating its own market beyond anything Microsoft has created. Where Microsoft is just a software manufacturer, Apple is becoming a lifestyle brand.

It's the same with anything else:

Is there any product manufacturer that you truly believe in? You know, in the way a person will only buy Pinarello bicycles, swears by Harleys, or will drive nothing but Porsches, imbibing all the while the excitement and lifestyle (read: community), these products present? I mean, look at this forum and the amount of posts you have on it - zealots, fanatics, purveyors, votaries or whatever - being a supporter isn't that bad. http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.en...t-event-57.jpg

Yeah, dd, point taken. But I don't care for people who are "all & anything Porsche/Pinarello/Harleys" either. ..Cult-like, again.

Part of what is interesting, in the Apple image, is that it has been the (somewhat) a counter culture. Now, we have Jobs hugging Schultz, and Shultz going on about ALL of the corporate Starbucks stores for the Apple following. Anyway, there is a rub there. Jobs wants market-share, yet his herd wants anti-corporate-ish exclusivity.

What will happen to the zealots when/if Apple displaces M-soft? ...and apple becoming the the ho-hum standard giant corp.
