Jimi and Jimmy were always my favorite players.

TSRTS established the myth of Page as a sloppy live player for the next 25 years.....

yeah, the footage from TSRTS was from the 73 US tour, end... and after they
shot it the band basically rejected it knowing that they were tired and gave
sort of a lame performance...

The footage sat around in various forms for 3 years before it was released in 76....they needed a project for the Swan Song label so they did the live
album and film.

The Trampled Under Foot clip...are you sure that was from the 73 tour?
Outfits are the same as the film... but that song was not released until
75's Physical Graffitti album... so perhaps they had it done 2 years earlier
but that is sort of unlike them to do.

perhaps this explains why:

"Clifton, in recognising that there were crucial holes in the concert footage, suggested that the entire show be recreated at Shepperton Studios in August 1974, on a mock-up of the Madison Square Garden stage. Close-ups and distance footage of the band members could then be slipped into the live sequences, which made up the bulk of the concert footage seen in the film. When it was agreed that the band would meet at Shepperton Studios for filming, Jones had recently had his hair cut short, so he had to wear a wig. Robert Plant's teeth had also been fixed between the 1973 and 1974 filmings."

Great band... versitile, innovative etc. but had this sort of other worldly vibe, combined with a dash of
the black magic and a bit of surliness (dont fuk with us attitude) that set them apart from the rest.

PS: You have to put Page into perspective as a legendary Sonic Architect,
Songwriter and Producer...pretty damned good guitarist too, innovative
and always looking for the new sounds.

JPJ is underrated only among non-musicians. The rest of us have known about his arranging prowess for decades. I'll use the Beatles as an analogy. All four were necessary, in both bands. With the Beatles, the idea man was Paul, but the most productive and imaginative artist was John. Paul's chops were like Mozart, whereas John's were more like Beethoven. With Zep, Robert was the John. The expressionist. That was the whole game for him. A 100% pure blues singer. JPJ was the structure. The musician. Page was the gunslinger.

And, quite frankly (this is the strongest opinion I have about Zep), Bonham was a percussion genius of the highest order. Nobody has ever come anywhere near his contribution. Not Moon. Not Peart. Not anybody.

Well I didnt know any of that- thanks, very interesting. Yeah, the outfits, the staging are the same, or simailr, to the 73 US shows fimed for the TSRTS- interesting, if you look at the Sydney footage on HTWWW- same stage rigs, same tour- (72/73)i think.

I assumed stuff from Physical Graffiti (The best Zep record, IMHO) might well be getting a workout in 73. How intweresting that they "recreated" the tour. Ive never heard that.

Ah who cares. My 16yo, born 11 0r 12 yars after Zep broke up, wears has a Zoso T shirt. Its very enduring stuff. -)

Obviously one of the greatest rock bands ever.

But this current reunion can't come close to what they were. That was a different time and place, and they are very different people now. They were rock stars then. They are old men now. Even if they still can play the notes well, that would make them old men playing notes well.

(I'd still love to see 'em, though!)

I saw the Houses of the Holy tour in 71?, I guess. The best, THE BEST, rock & roll show I ever saw. That includes the Stones twice, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Yes, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Elton John, Santana, Deep Purple, and just about everybody else but Pink Floyd. Robert Plant is "the voice of rock & roll." John Bonham was the best drummer in r&r. If Page was not good live, his deficiencies were beyond my ability to discern.

The Stones, Aerosmith, Who, Jimmy Buffet, Santana, Yes, all examples of "old men" that I have seen within the last year or so who can still do it 10x's better than the current crop of Brittany, Timberlake bubble gum manufactured "talent".

There voices may crack here and there but at least you know you paid for a live show.

I think that was someone overdubbing their own playing.

Notice the bass player and drummer are both playing. Where is their audio? I doubt we are hearing an isolated feed recorded from the board. Looks out of sync all over the place.

Yeah the Vai clip is meant to be a joke...

that Trampled Under Foot clip... after watching it again, it definitely is not from the 73
tour, the footage is shot differently, and there are no crowd scenes either... band looks
a bit fatter and healthier too.
