Normal people with a clue don't get tazed. Idiots, drug addicts, and troublemakers get tased. Sometimes they might die from a result of their own stupidity. Am I supposed to feel sorry for them? nope.
I've gone 47 years without getting arrested. No hand cuffs, never been in the back of a police car. Never even came close. Why? because I know the difference between right and wrong and I don't act like an a$$ and ask for trouble.

I say we should buy the cops tazers that go to eleven.

All true. I got tazed because I asked to be, so I'm in the first category, and maybe the third.

Got zapped by the Taser Chief Instructor, at the SHOT show in Vegas last February. I was sober (maybe a little carry-over from the prior evening, but not enough to impair my judgment, such as it is) and figured, what the heck. Two of my knucklehead buddies joined me and ZZZZZZAAAAAP! It was over in 5 seconds.

5 of the longest seconds of my life.

I did sign a waiver though. I even used my "waiver name": Eduardo Dinero.

A taser is different from a stun gun because the electrodes end up much farther apart, across your chest or back or legs-arms - whatever, instead of a "stun gun" where the electrodes are a fixed distance (a few inches) apart. Taser is waaaay worse, because the electricity travels through more of your body.

I'm sure the cops could have taken him down easily. But in a post-Rodney King world, any cop who uses his physical skill or his club to subdue someone gets an automatic "police assault" label.

So, IMO, the officers did the 'right' thing because they let it go on for a while until it was pretty obvious the guy was a jackhole. They KNEW the video would be all over the TV and Internet, so they made sure the guy was out of hand before they took steps.

I agree. They gave him a pretty long leash before tasing him. The guy had AMPLE opportunity to comply.

That's exactly correct. When people have pretended and put on a good show to convince the screeners they are rabid Dubya-lovers, then they sometimes make it in. But.........at the FIRST, the VERY FIRST sign they might make a critical remark, they are sprinted out of the room. So again, this would not happen at a Dubya event. Dubya and his people wouldn't let anyone make critical remarks for more than just a few stolen seconds. In other words, Dubya does not take open questions like Kerry and everyone else does. Dubya's appearances are MUCH more closely scripted than that.

This is your "president" we're talking about. The "president" of the country YOU think stands for freedom.

We've heard this sort of thing from you before, many times. You sound as convincing as Senator Craig. Reverend Bakker. Newt Gingrich. They also reminded us often about their purity. Do you knock on wood when you tell us these things?

i'de say he's a dillhole
did he deserve to get tazed, sure,
was it right? no, cops should be able to take down one dumbass without it if it's 10:1
and they should know better then to taze with camera's all over the place

if i were a cop, i'de be tazing the bugger all the way to "downtown"
but i'de do it in the squad car, out of sight, on the beat of some funky tune on the radio
especially if it was some james brown tune

zap zapzap zap zapzap zap eeeeew zap take it to the bridge, good gawd zapzap

james brown is brilliant for this purpose as his screams and shrieks on volume 11, would muffle the dillhole's , perfect setup

it's probably a good thing i'm not a cop

No, he didn't deserve to be tazed. John Kerry should have taken control of the situation. That's what leaders are supposed to do...

And he did win the election, after all.

Regardless of what your political beliefs or personal standards of correct social behaviour happen to be, the question that needs to be answered here is whether or not the cops used the taser in a manner approved by the law enforcement regulations that they are bound by.

If it was used as "punishment" the cops are waaay out of bounds and should be prosecuted along with the guy who was obviously breaking the law by resisting the cops.

I can't tell enough from the video to form an opinion one way or another and I don't know the specifics pertaining to the authorized use of tasers.

I can say with certainty that a cop's job description precludes passing judgement and/or administering punishment in ANY case. That's the job of the courts in this country. The cop's job is to bring offenders TO justice, NOT to administer it.

If this sounds namby pamby, think of the alternative - police state. If that's not clear, look it up and you'll see that it's diametrically opposed to all that our constitution stands for.

I agree. Unfortunately most of the trolls that frequent this board smoke crack and have no compassion.
Kerry actually said "it's ok, I'm going to answer the question, it's important"

this kid will have his day in court and he will win. the campus police were way out of line. God forbid we have a strict time limit to ask our politicians some questions.
he was up there for only a couple of minutes. unreal.

he was only up there for a couple minutes. get real.
minor detail

he wasn't tazed for talking
he was tazed for resisting arrest

i agree, it was over the top
but if he would have behaved like a man, and dealt with it quietly instead of throwing a tantrum, he wouldn't have been tazed, it's that simple

HAHA! Yeah, the guy came across as a real pain in the a$$. But being a pain in the a$$ doesn't give a cop the right to "punish" you with a taser (if that was what happened).

More importantly, if the cops tasered all the pains in the a$$ in this country I'd have been really twitchin' and thrashin' from electro shock "therapy" on more than one occasion myself and that aint right!
