Poor Canucks can't take home duty free unless they have been south of the border for at least 48 hours..

Classic Canadian commercials, I have no idea why Molson went to a different slogan and campaign?
Anyway buck is suppose to hit a US buck today and they predict it will surpass the US dollar. Will everyone in California please hide their Porsches as they will be the next biggest import to Canada ![]() The REAL interesting part will be will Porsche change pricing again, as I know a lot of Canadians are buy brand new out of the US due to the savings (even though Porsche shafts you on service), and if the CDN $ goes higher there will be bus loads of Canucks going down to the US to buy cars; kinda like old folks coming here for their meds ![]()

Christien, I read an article on a guy from Van that could not get a turbo cab there, and while on holidays he got one south of the border, all in he saved $40,000. Can't argue with that kind of savings.

No, you sure can't. I know a guy locally who tried for months to get the two local dealerships to find him the precise car he wanted (a 993 cabrio, if memory serves). He finally gave up and bought one in the states, because he could find what he wanted immediately, with substantial savings. So even with the price differential, the local dealers aren't really doing anything to retain business. Of course, there's no shortage of people who want status symbol cars, who don't think twice about leasing a brand new boxster or 911 to commute to work in. Then there are all the wealthy soccer moms in their Cayennes who are ensuring the financial well-being of PAG and PCNA for years to come...

Man, this would be the time for me to pick up a car in the states. Too bad Canada blocks the importation of Mercedes e300d's
When I found the Carrera for my father back in January, I was telling him "You better buy now, while the dollar's at 84 cents!"

Bob, What do the Canadian dealers do to dissuade you from buying in the US?

Some ask for a $400 warranty registration fee in order to get warranty work done here, some refuse to honour warranties, some stipulate a minimum 4 week waiting period for warranty work. They also deny recall clearance letters to brokers and non-Porsche dealerships importing from the US. There have also been reports of various scare tactics by the salesman, things like you'll never be able to sell a US car in Canada if you decide to sell, its value will be minimal, Canadianization charges will be prohibitively expensive, etc. (all of which is BS)

So how about that Canadian dollar, eh?
I'm hearing that 1 Canadian will buy 1.10 US before too long.

If you buy a new car in the US and bring it back (you are the first owner) they try to not honor the warranty.....
Cheers

Actually it is a combination of both, but mostly a weak US dollar.
It is a double edge sword though, it may be good for the consumer, if he cross border shops or buys online, but it hurts forestry, tourism and manufacturing etc and any business that exports stuff to the US. Cheers

Neil, what Christian and Jeff said, I've hear of guys being told they on "on the bottom of the list" when it comes to service, i.e. the 4 week wait. I think a couple of complaints have been lodged with Porsche over this.
Ordered some parts from pelican today hehehehe....
