Major Racing Announcement

Much to our amazement... myself and another couple idiots that frequent this board entered and were 'accepted' to the 24 Hour of Lemons midwest race. (its a two day wacky enduro race)

The $500 and under car rule is in effect and we picked up a 86 325e.

We have a site up with some info and will be posting updates as they happen

http://www.racingskin.com/racingskin/lemons/index.html

The car arrived under its own power after a 25 mile drive. perfect car for the job we think. cooling system looks in great shape.

we'll pull the calipers and rebuild them,, do the timing belt, go over the brakes and crap like that. first step will be to strip it down and put in a cage.

Baptism with stout:

Yeah...right...

I would recommend your test and tune mileage be low...very low. I think that car has been programmed to only run for the amount of miles equivalent to the amount of dollars you paid for it!

Pretty nice looking car for $500.

Are you going to seriously be able to convince them you got that for 500 bucks? I think if they suspect shenanigans (e.g. one friend "selling" it to another for 500 when there's another few hundred or grand under the table) they assess a value and penalize you.

Good luck though - can't wait to hear how this turns out.

the car is worth more in parts, but as a 'driver' its a <$500 car.

i think it has 230k+ miles? lots of rust, cracked windows, dryrotted everything. but it runs.

Don't forget the paper trail showing its increasing value...all the way up to its last selling price.

when we sell off some crap, that will partially offset their BSF assessed value if need be. i keep saying we need to roll this sucker a time or two to justify the bargain price........... maybe we should rub it up against a brick wall a little?.

we'll be fine. so they penalize us a lap per $10 over the $500 purchase, big whip. we're PORSCHE DE RACERS damnit. We can make up 50 laps in no time......

WHAT's WRONG WITH YOU???!!!?? I have a cool collar sitting in my garage. I took it off the pbs911 3.0L to 3.6L to 3.2L to 3.2L w/ 964 cam regrind upgrade car I was suckered into buying.

The eRam is not in our budget, unless we can convince the LeMons staff it operates the braking system.

Don't worry Souk, you'll lose all attachment to the car when we weld on the dorsal fin, install cooling "gills", and screw the waterskis to the trunklid.

As long as it has more miles than what's equivalent to what YOU paid for it.

Too late..it's well over that mile mark. LOL!

I think you guys should hole saw all the body panels!

Tip: cut the springs to lower it. Freebee. And have your roll bar guy make bush guard bumpers for the front and rear...that's a safety feature, right?

thats been discussed. as i recall, the perches for the springs are small. i.e. if we cut the ends off the spring it will be a different diameter than the perch/hats. i'll have to double check.

EDIT: looks doable per searching on bimmerforums.

i was too busy upgrading the windshield wipers last night to bother with suspension crap.

souk... you havent posted this much on pelican in years. i sense you're having trouble letting go of that rusty POS.

You're right Bern...cut a little off on both ends and forget about it. Or I can give you guys the springs from myother car, but you'll pay in labor (i.e.) come help me swap out the springs and you can have my take-offs.

The driveway looks way too clean without El Cheapo I power washed the driveway last night to prep for seal coating...and I spent a little extra time washing El Cheapo's spot....I think there is still some of his blood on the driveway....it'll be forever sealed into my driveway. LOL!

D-Day: Hey, quit your blubberin'. When I get through with this baby you won't even recognize it.
Otter: Flounder, you can't spend your whole life worrying about your mistakes! You ****ed up - you trusted us! Hey, make the best of it! Maybe we can help.
Flounder: [crying] That's easy for you to say! What am I going to tell Fred?
Otter: I'll tell you what. We'll tell Fred you were doing a great job taking care of his car, but you parked it out back last night and in the morning, it was gone. We report it to the police, D-Day takes care of the wreck, the insurance company buys your brother a new car.
Flounder: Will that work?
Otter: Hey, it's gotta work better than the truth.
Bluto: [thrusting six-pack into Flounder's hands] My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
Otter: Better listen to him, Flounder, he's in pre-med.
D-Day: [firing up blow-torch] There you go now, just leave everything to me.
