Worth it to me, in fact it was worth $599.
![]() Only negative, IMO, is that T's Edge network is slow for web, but fine for email. Wi-Fi web is excellent. Having an iPod on board and a decent 2MP cam is nice and useful. Using IMAP email and synching with my Mac's browser, address book and calendar is VERY useful. Oh yeah, the phone part of it works great and visual voice-mail is not just a novelty. For me there is nothing on the market that can match it, FWIW. Best, Kurt |

Just buy it. If you decide it's too much $/performance, sell it.

I love mine. Hate AT&T's signal coverage here, I'm not use to calls dropping. The phone is a mini-computer.

No. I'd wait until after MacWorld expo in January when all the updates will be announced.

If you require constant distraction and cannot live with silence or solitude, then by all means get one. I have a simple cell phone whose only function is for emergencies when I am on the road. Otherwise, I am happy with "old school" technology.

Moneyguy makes a good point. Also makes me think about being a kid and finding "short cuts." ..you know, where you need to walk down a straight road, but you find a path off to the side, that takes you to someones back yard, that connects to an alley-way, that then has another path thru another yard, along a fence, thru a hedge, and back out on to the road you were on. Yeah, technology, like the iphone, is a lot like that. A whole lot of us are suckers for those "short cuts." ...maybe because we like to explore. ..maybe we like to show our friends our cool "short cuts". Maybe some short cuts take you by the Playboy mansion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Secondly, porn-sharing is good for friendships. Third - never needed a shortcut to the Playboy Mansion - I know the quickest way there since I grew up around the corner from it. ![]()

Part of the reason I like my 911 so much. Nothing fancy, no DVD players or satellite radio or GPS or computer controlled EFI or any digital crap of any sort on board. Bare-bones, raw mechanical simplicity and electrical circuits I can actually understand. Some technology is good and some electronic "toys" are fine, but there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing". That's the current state of affairs with our society and electronic doohickeys and gizmos.

I've had mine for only a few days. Best $400 I've ever spent. Great toy and great tool.

So...why are you detractors of tech typing on computers and not sending handwritten letters or, at least, smoke signals?

Yeah, (hooking up my pants and spitting) the 911 is too durn fancy ass for me. I drive one of them big stone wheels like in the "B.C." comics. Just me and the wheel. C'mon guys, you're hilarious. If someone wants an iphone why do you have to make a judgement about it like they have a character deficiency? "If you require constant distraction and cannot live with silence and solitude..." Geez, everyone get off their high horse. By the way, the term "doohickeys" is a sure sign you are a geezer, you "hepcat"....not that there's anything wrong with that ![]()

Having music on my phone might approach that definition, but when I jog with music it's nice having the other applications on board . . . if I choose to access them. If you're a slave to your device, the robots have already won. ![]() Best, Kurt |

I travel, a lot.
My iPhone accesses all of my personal mail accounts, corps webmail, gives me weather for where I'm going, serves as my alarm clock, let's me watch movies of my choice on planes without having to drag out the laptop or portable DVD player, let's me listen to tunes while I sleep, gives me access to maps and driving directions when in unfamiliar territory or I need to find a way out of a traffic jam, etc, etc, etc.... Now imagine if I had to carry a unique device for each one of those tasks. Combined they'd cost a hell of a lot more than one iPhone.

Hehe. I'm not saying "Theodore Kaczynski was right" or anything, just there seems to be a bit too much obsession with digital gizmos in our society. The artificial reality of our making is no substitute for the real thing - that's all.
It wasn't all that long ago when the world functioned just fine without mobile phones. Wasn't all that long ago either. . . How quickly we forget and how dependent we become.
