No surprise but still an eye opener. Give it a try.

Unfortunately, any figure between $200,001 and $999,999 gives the exact same output. It still does put things in perspective.

Not at all. I don't need a website to tell me this.

You are not competing with the billionaires for the top slot, you are competing with those people in under-developed countries ...that make pennies per day.

I believe I read several years ago that if your total 'household income' was over $75K per year you were in that upper ONE percentile (worldwide).

So while you may not be challenging Warren Buffett for the upper slots, be thankful you live in the USA or other economically advanced countries.

(and keep those credit cards balances paid off!)

Lets see... I've got a wife that loves me, 2 great kids, a job that is fun and gives me time off and halfway acceptable pay workign for a good boss, the mortgage is paid, bills are mostly caught up, and once in a while I get to drive a 42 year old german car that smells kinda funny.

I'm rich beyond anyones wildest dreams.

I agree - it's personal perception and attitude. I don't have to work fields for a living or in a sweatshop someplace, I get to do work that's mostly fun and enjoyable and typically my biggest crisis in a given day is which car to drive (the Mercedes or the Porsche) or what we're doing for dinner that night. I can't say life is all that bad. There could always be more $$$, but there could certainly be less. I've got myself a place on the beach, I've got more than enough hobbies to keep myself busy and a loving wife who (for whatever reason) puts up with my crap and two cats that amuse the heck out of me 24/7. Life is good.

I just read 'Richistan' by Robert Frank. Very interesting. Basically, no matter how wealthy you are, you always want more, and feel the 'next step' (Approx. double your current wealth) will make you feel secure. Never happens. I'm with Id10t- he's right on.

Cheers,

Paul.

I punched in $25,000.

"You're richer than you think"

IMO.. rich in the US means that it's fun to take advantage of the competition for capital formation. When it's fun to make $ you have the opportunity to become first string. Second generation wealth rarely has the dynamism of the founder.

fwiw.. Hollywood is one of the most competitive places on earth. Every movie is like drilling an oil well. Nobody knows if the next movie will be a success.

Either you're a player or you're a common worker.

Just went to the funeral of an old friend yesterday. He flew in WW2, Korea and Viet Nam and ended up dying of a heart attack on his ranch in SE Arizona. Nicest guy in the world and you could not ask for a better friend. He was 83 years young and left a lasting memory on all of us who flew with him.

I can pay my bills, hopefully have a job that will keep me out of trouble and able to keep paying the bills in the future, have friends who check in on me from time to time and have reasonably good health. Cat loves me and the only woman who is pissed at me right now is mad because she could not stop by for a dip in the hot tub then spend the night last night due to kid problems.

I am rich beyond my dreams. Wish everyone else could be as lucky... and hope you get there!

You are the 107,565 richest person in the world! You're in the TOP 0.001%
richest people in the world!

I used total household income as well as dividends and appreciation from investments which may be cheating. It doesn't give any ground rules.

How do you really measure "rich"? Everything you own (or think you own) can become meaningless in an instant. Like an old somg says:

"The best things in life to you were just loaned

so how can you lose what you never owned?"

Some of us should recalibrate our priorities.

Health

Family

Friends

Food on the table and a roof over my head

Anything else, in the long run is irrelevant.

Sammy, can you lend me a million or three?

It doesn't take into account what have left over at the end of the year. You make $100K/year in Los Angeles, your not great, you make $100K/year in some backwater town in the south (or just about anywhere not near a coast or a major city) you've probably got some coin at the end of the year.

I'm 50 and the wife is 46, we have two kids. Everyone is healthy. We are retired except the wife teaches a night class for 4hours a week at the local college.

Around 10 years ago I decieded I didn't want to work till I was 65, so I saved and invested and reached my goal a little earlier than I had planned.

Life is good.

My family and I are healthy. We have a nice home, and we don't worry about money.

My daughters laugh is the greatest asset I have.

I know people who make twice what I make and they are only a paycheck or two from broke. Nothing in savings, spending every penny they can get a hold of to keep up with the jones.
I'm the opposite like my parents.
Work hard to get money, work harder to keep it.
Live below your means, not the other way around.
As I get older I can figure ways to live as well on less money, that means more in the bank.
I bought a new Toyota truck this year, that's my idea of splurging and being irresponsible.

My ultimate goal is to have enough to set up an open-ended annuity so my wife and I can live well for the rest of our years and then it transfers to my kids to set them up in life at least until they can get their careers and households established.
