If you haven't been there before, go to the top of the extinct volcano, Haleakala, or however they spell it. If you see clouds at the top from the base, don't bother, it'll be cold and foggy and you won't be able to see twenty feet in front of you. The sunrise up there is great, but not with little kids.

Make reservations for Mama's Fish House....a little spendy but worth it.

The restaurant at the Dunes golf course is surprisingly good, busy and a great value.

Enjoy it while you can!!

I went to Maui for the first time in Feb. for my 40th. Left our three kids with granny and my wife and I had our honey moon after 17 years of marriage. We had an absolutely great time.

Maui wrecked me, Wayne. I dream of it every day now...

We just got back from Maui, stayed at the Black Rock Sheraton.

We went snorkling a bunch of places, including on a boat tour, but the snorkling at Black Rock was the best.

Mama's Fish House was good (very good), but that has to be the most expensive restaurant I've ever been to. Crazy expensive. Was worth it to my wife. Not so much to me. There's a limit on how much even a nice dinner is worth, and Mama definitely pushes that boundry.

There was a place in Lahaina called Lunch Plate something-or-another, that was pretty good for a casual meal, right on the beach, great atmosphere, very local flavor. Gets crowded, though.

for real giggles hook up with lahaina divers. go check out the cathedral off of lanai. unda-wata lava tubes. wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cooooooool. lots of turtles which means lots of tiger sharks! wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy cooooooler.

for even more giggles after belting a few mai-tais down and making a few for the walk. go north of kanapali resort. above new construction of hotel. walk thru field to beach. sit on sand and watch the water. soon you will see lil turtle heads popping up along reef. then you will see lil shark fins and big shark fins feeding on the turtles. lots of thrashing about action when mr tiger gets his teeth sunk into mr turtle. wayy cool nature at its finest showing pecking order. this occurs at dawn and at dusk. THE TWO WORST TIMES TO BE SWIMMING/SNORKLING/SURFING off maui coast.

just south of lahaina, with in eyesight of marina, signs posted everywhere, DO NOT SWIM HERE SHARKS! not 2 days after we were there, this some dumb-a$$ white guy decides to go for a drunken swim...........well hes still alive but missing a few chunks of skin! manos be everywhere.

trust me.............im a diver!

also if you fish................fish only blue water. ie. from a boat. entire reef around island infected with cigadarra(sp) disease in reef fish. organism in plants that fish eat then get infected and then pass onto humans. not good at all.

how do i know all of this???? my buddy lives just east of old lahaina town.

stay tuned for TALES FROM BARBADOS, just got back in.................coming soon to pelican OT with pics as soon as i get them back. yep new digital camera trashed by TSA. TSA HATES DIVERS! 3rd time go around with these clowns lugging scuba gear and cameras(plural) thru security. real nasty letter forthcoming to TSA in next day or so from me. loooooooooooong story and had to revert back to nikonos V with sb-105 strobe old school camera technology.

in a nutshell.............in 33 years of diving..............barbados was the coolest reef and wreck diving i have EVER DONE IN MY LIFE!

slam a few mai-tais for me................im on the wagon after drinking the mt. gay rum distillary dry as well as the banks beer brewery dry!

just south of airport(not OSG) east side of maui, going towards hana. nice runway, nice view. lots of lava caves along shoreline.

bad rip tides, portequese man-o-wars, jelly fish. not good for swimmers, but heard its a great unmolested boat dive on calm days.
