If your going to consider the south, then FLA is my pick. I lived in Sarasota for six years and loved it. No you don't see snow, but you don't have to muddle your way through those southern twang accents either. The interior is hot, but if you can manage to come close to the beaches it's paradise. Lots of great fishing and birding.
