help us decide where to relocate....
michelle and i are planning on relocating this coming year......i'm shooting to be out of here by june of '08. we are both simply just tired of ohio weather and ohio in general, and we are going to sieze the opportunity to do this, because if we don't do it "now" we are never going to do it........
my sister lives in central north carolina so i'd like to be within a few hours of there, michelle is a disney kid and wants florida.......i will not move to florida, nothing against it personally, just too flat for my taste ![]() we were looking into charlotte n.c. or charlston s.c, or somewhere in between.....personally i think charleston will be a little out of budget being it's right on the coast. simple requirements that we have are civilization (meaning 15 minutes tops for starbucks or whatever), room for my 911 and fish tanks, and a safe area where she can go for her walks. employment-wise.....pretty flexible, i can walk into most any audio shop and be hired on the spot for decent $$, shops are everywhere so i'm not even concerned about it..... so let's hear some thoughts on some areas to check out, we are planning a full week in spring, most likely late april to check out some things firsthand and to secure a house, we will be renting for a year to figure out exactly where we want to buy. i'm open to areas with a non-LA style cost of living

Lots of people moving to Charlotte. Nice area. Asheville is pretty nice as well. NC may be in my plans in about 10 years.

Great work area experiencing growth. Close to great forests and drives. Very decent weather. It's also a large area without being metro to a large city. Plenty of hunting a fishing close by.

Bell,
We are in much the same situation except that my only son will graduate from HS in June. I currently am employed by a company in the Columbia, SC area (Lexington) as the sales manager. I work from home 3 weeks, spend 1 week in Columbia. I have been working like this for 2+ years. We have spent the past 2 spring breaks and the week between Christmas and New Years as a family there. We have become very familiar with the area and are looking forward to the relocation. Several good things about the Columbia area. State capital, USC (for the arts, college area) Good restaurants and plenty to do compared to the NE Ohio area. 1-1/2 hours to the coast, same to Charlotte, 6-7 hours to Orlando, Atlanta in less than 4. Housing cost is reasonable unless you want to live right on Lake Murray, Oh yeah, Lake Murray is beautiful. Great bar-b-que. Lexington boast some of the top public schools in the SE, tops in SC. My vote is for central SC! Seems to be plenty of P-Car stuff going on in the area. My office is close th Doc's Porsche in Lexington, very well known shop and very active in the PCA. I have been to a local PCA meeting on a previous trip and everyone was very interested in me and when I might relocate. Will the last person in OHIO please turn out the lights and lock the door, I personally can't waight to leave and there thousands who feel the same way! See you all in the south when we all arrive!

Wichita, KS?
![]() Ok, maybe not. We can't compete with NC for scenery. However, we do have great jobs, low cost of living, and 90% of what big cities have to offer. Oh yeah, and I can make it from one side of town to the other, in rush hour, in about 20 minutes. Not bad for a metro area of almost 600k people. We've been picked in several "best places to live" pieces in national magazines, most recent I remember is Forbes.

Come to Socal. We need more white folk. Not to mention people that know English as a first language.

Charlotte is nice and has an airport. Asheville is great, too, but maybe a little less "metropolitan". If you hate hot summer, though, you might be bummed.
Knoxville, Chattanooga are nice. Denver is nice. Plenty of friggin sports heros who need stereos out here. And a great airport. and some hills.

Wilmington NC is really nice. Can't beat coastal living. Hurricane season can suck but other than that, i have no complaints. Cost of living is reasonable.

Come to Charlotte! I've lived here all my life (23 years) and it's a great place. There's several Starbucks within 15 mins driving distance from my house! You're a half-hour to Lake Norman, plus we don't have the bad humidity problem like they do in Wilmington, NC!
![]() Besides, the more Porsche folk here the better, IMO. edited to add: Lots of people from Ohio move down here.

Am I the only one here who likes living in a rural area in Ohio? I guess so. Bring on fall, then winter, it is time for a pleasant change.
