Idiot JUST almost hit my P-CAR!!!!

I don't understand what is wrong with people. It is a nice day out, so i decided to polish my car's leather interior, and use PlastX on the rear cab window to try to get rid of a nasty scratch on it. As i am polishing the window (which came out nicely by the way), some old man gets in his car across from me, and backs out of his garage towards mine. Hes getting real close and i really think hes going to hit my car so i step aside and as I do...

CRACK!

The moron hits the brick supports for the garage, then puts his car in drive and leaves. Doesn't even get out to see if i'm ok, or if maybe he hit my car.

IDIOTS!

Its about a 10 car garage, for people in the apartment complex. They have a similar garage about 15 opposite side of driveway. He backed out of his driveway and went too far back, and hit the support for the garage. He cracked up his plastic bumper then took off.

Group garages are a pain. I used to rent one solely for the Porsche until I was parked in on the morning I had made plans to have my first meet and greet breakfast with the Riesentoter PCA group. Sat there and couldn't get out.

I would leave a letter on his car with a coupon for a new pair of glasses.

"some old man"

- I think that is the key. He is too old to drive. Try to get his plate and/or ID and see if the DMV can force him to take a driving test based on your complaint. It is really for his own good. We are all going to get there sooner or later...

Also, see if you can meet his kids or younger relatives and have a very nice, friendly talk with them -- for his own good.

He will resist the familiy's attempt to "take away his freedom" and yours even stronger. But...

I took away my mom's car a few years before she died - with her full acceptance.... until she realized what it entailed, then you'd have thought I was selling her off into slavery.

People suck.

I sometimes get ridiculed or ribbed for how anal retentive I am about how I park my cars, always put 'em under covers, seek out isolated parking spots with no adjacent ones next to them, etc. but it does work.

Assume that everyone can/will do the stupidest thing possible at all times and not give a damn and you'll never be disappointed.

And that's the problem. But, CA is starting a new pilot program to give reaction tests to "selected" drivers. They can't go after a certain age, apparently because of some discrimination law (in this case, elders). There are some other tests that will be offered as well. I think this is great. Shoot, I don't even know how well I drive (or react, anyway), so a comparison test showing me that I'm not up to par would wake me up big time.

That's the thing, most people assume that they are the same when they're not. I've pretty much taken myself off the track. I might do an autocross if I get the car up to speed and see how confident I am. But, more importantly, see how the instructors feel. It really takes some observation of the driver.

I'd mention this to the "some old man" politely and ask him if he saw a scratch on his bumper. It would be scary if he said he saw it and didn't know how it happened.

Meanwhile, how's the garage support??

****** geezers. I was driving on a 6-lane, 2-way road just yesterday and here comes some old cotton-head DRIVING THE WRONG WAY. Had the light been green longer, she would've been smeared in a head-on accident @ 50mph.

Everyone was honking and she finally realized what she was doing wrong. So, she stops, smiles & waves (aww...how cute...gramma is waving @ us), then hangs a monkey and goes on her merry way.

If ever in SoFLA and in need of some free entertainment, pick up a six-pack and take your lawn chair to any super-market parking lot that is near a senior citizen housing project.

My parents in San Diego are supposed to start taking drivers tests next year. But it is the WRITTEN test, not a road test.

+1 on FLA

It should be a law that you must move to Florida to drive when you are old and keep the rest of America safe. At least when you live in Florida you already know that the large car with blue haired lady will pull out in front of you and you can ride your brakes and get ready for evasive maneuvers.

An elderly lady backed into my truck in the CVS parking lot a few months back. I was in line waiting to pay when a woman walked in the door and asked if that was my truck outside, I replied "yes" and she said that lady that just left(whom I was standing in line behind) backed into it. I went outside, and sure enough, there was broken tailight pieces on the ground from where she hit the bumper--no marks on my truck--and the lady who informed me said the driver just put in into drive and kept going--so she probably didn't even notice she had hit something---scary.
