Japanese GP (*spoiler*)

Holy crap...rain certainly is the great equalizer.

How about Massa and Kubica on the last lap? That was nuts!

The kid can drive...don't care what the naysayers say. Barring something catastrophic F1 will have its first rookie champion.

I have to agree with you. I think that race may have sealed the championship, and well deserved it will be. McLaren really should have the maunfacturer's title too, but never mind this is way better in my opinion.
Once the racing starts, I love watching a wet race. It is amazing to watch the talent that those guys have along with the guts to run that fast when you can't be 100% sure of where everyone else is going to be. That is one of the things that sets F1 apart from NASCAR if anyone wanted a reason.

No wonder Vettel was in tears. He's gonna get ripped a new one...

Overslept and missed the first hour including Alonso going off.

Fantastic fight in the Finnish Championship as well as between Massa and Kubica at the very last lap.

Congrats to Lewis. He is worthy of the overalll win. I wonder how Alonso feels..

If you've ever raced in the rain you'll sit in awe of what those guys just did. Last weekend at Buttonwillow it started to rain 3 laps into our 12 lap race. Every lap the course was different, with parts of the track having reasonable traction and others like glass. The car would shiver and move without any warning. I managed to stay smooth and keep a bunch of wavers in check until about lap 9 when I was being pressured. I turned-in fine then without warning the rear end just snapped out and I was sliding sideways through the dirt. Got back on track after losing a position or two and tiptoed to the finish with my lone wiper smearing mud across the windshield.

Those guys have mad skillz...

Yes, skills beyond imagination. In those conditions I would hesitate going 50 mph in my Grand Cherokee in a straight line.

I wonder how Hamilton would do in a GT3 around the Nordschleife at Nurburg.

As I said in the other thread though, what were Ferrari thinking starting on inters? Even before the race started it seemed pretty clear that that it was going to be very wet. Starting behind the safety car was another very clear indication. There was no way that I can think of that full wets were ever going to be anything but the best option to start the race with. The three stops that they made really finished it off for them then, otherwise we may have had a different outcome.

I was really disappointed about Alonso. It was never really clear what happened there either. Obvioulsy he went off by himself, but we never got to see anything leading up to the incident. I was wondering if some of that damaged bodywork and/or undertray that was flapping around at the back there managed to pucture his tire, or if whatever had caused that damage had damaged the suspension. Either way the result is the same.

Even if the decision is not far fetched from a team point of view, Massa must have felt like a dummy when he for blatantly obvious reasons is ordered in for a pit stop so his team mate can pass.

Why? They need to catch Hamilton in the next 2 races. Kimi came into the race with more points and needed maximum points in this race. It was a team move and Massa conceded weeks ago that he would do everyhting he could to help Kimi at this point. That is indeed a dedicated team player and Kimi will not forget it and I would be willing to say that Kimi would do the same next year if the situation was swapped.

Who is more of the dummy? The guy in 2nd place in the constructors that crashed or the guy in 4th that finished?

Massa final lap was amazing it reminded me of some of my GT4 drives in a game without consequence.

I watched the last few laps. Wild!

What I want to know is: How the hell do those cars stay glued to the track in that kind of weather? Wouldn't the law of physics take over after a certain speed? Hydro-planing happens at less-than-freeway speeds everyday, yet these madmen were easily approaching 200mph(?) and made it look like a Sunday drive...tires are only so sticky, no?

???

So what was with that silly fuel stop of Alonso's that put him at the back of the pack? Was that RD being churlish? Could Alonso just have said fark it - and put the car into the wall?

Very strange race - but great result.

Skill, downforce, tires, traction control, quick hands, skill.

No necessarily in that order.

Never underestimate the power of a really good tire and a high downforce setup. It was amazing to watch guys with street tires clean up over guys with Hoosiers when the track got wet at BW. My well worn RA-1s weren't quite up to the task. Neither was the driver...

Certainly one of the more interesting races of late. That was some amazing driving in the wet. And Massa/Kubica duel was worth the price of admission.

My DVR cut out with 1.5 laps of the race to go. I take it Hamilton won?

Me too. Glad I dvr'd the end of the replay. Would hate to have missed that insane Mass/Kubica battle.
