my new 356 A

I have been asked to post a picture - and of course I'll be happy to show off my new pride.

Although I am glad I got it, I hate that our relationship started of with problems (hestitates in lower speeds, but is real fast and smooth on the freeway/highways). Some of you made great effort to give me tips how to fix it. Thx again! I am still working on it.

Voila, here she is:

Way nice. If you don't mind, pls check and add it to the database at www.356a.com if it isn't already there - that db gets pushed to the Registry every so often I think... Also, you probably want to join the Registry (worth the $40 for the magazine alone - also all back issues are available on sets of DVDs as pdf files), and maybe 356talk if you aren't already a member.

BTW - I've got a C coupe, just near the end of production (58th from last).

register it ?

I could register it - I just checked and it sais that the VIN is not file. What is the advantage of having it registered?
I do intent to sign up/become member at the 356 registry - I want one of their badges so bad!

For those that asked about the history: I admit, I bought it on eBay and picked it up in Minneapolis last week (had it shipped). No history known. The car is far from perfect, but I think while driving I can get it there. It looks good already and is pretty solid.
I found it very hard to get and 356 A and I was impatient - that's why I grabbed it from eBay. I was aware of the risk (no history), but when I compared the prices on the European Market, I just turned around and paid the dough. Cars in this shape are advertised for more than double (you never know for how much they go, but it was some kind of indicator) of what I paid (also thx to exchange rate).
The previous owner presented me with repair/maintainance receipts that totaled some $4000 over the last 3 years - kinda looked like that he took some care of it. And it is very clean.

Hey, anyone know what kind of carb this is?

Adding it to the DB helps complete records to know when changes were made ot the cars. Also, knowing all the existing cars, and fates of cars that are known to be gone. Just collecting history. You don't need to add any info you feel uncomfortable about, but having the vin, engine, and trans number and something like "purchased via ebay in Minn. Sept. '07" would help.

Also, if you join 356talk (you can be a non-registry member and join) if you post the VIN there, Bill Block may be able to give you some history (he keeps the Official Database for the Reg.), and you may even find a previous owner.

Hmm, It just occured to me that those carburettors may be a large part of your problem. Are there no markings to indicate the manufacturer? You may want to peruse Ebay to pick up an appropriate pair of carbs, such as Dellorto, Solex or maybe Zeniths( I think the Zeniths are original to that car). I have Dellortos in mine.

Actually, I think those are the original Zeniths. Look on side, it should say.

actually, those 32 zeniths run very well on the early cars. better than the average solex or weber. not quite the same power, but just right for the weaker early engines.
