Funny, I was looking at some VW based stuff recently too.

I came across a posting about a Deserter GS for sale. They were made my Autodynamics, and used a mid-engined spaceframe that was designed to accomodate VW, porsche or corvair power.

Lots of neat info about these cars. They claimed that with a stock corvair engine, it could do 0-60 in 4.7. A 911 powered one was SCCA auto-x champ for a while.

Anyway, in my reading it was mentioned that a company in California had tried to put it back in production. Did some digging, and came across this:

THE DESERTER GS is BACK IN PRODUCTION

I wonder what ever came of it. I know Steve got chased out of the shoptalkforums for shenanigans.

Durn, you just reminded me one of my dream cars from back when I was a kid was one of those rear engine fiberglass dune buggies. I think I looked at them when I was looking for my "fun" car and they were a little pricey for what you got. Hopefully one day I will get my hands on one.

Me too. I love the old dune buggies. The Meyers Manx was so cool back in 1968. I had the plans to build one but no place to do it. Living in downtown Chicago just was not possible. I'm still looking for a good buggy for some sun and fun.

I'm kicking around replacing my boring Chevy truck with something a bit more "interesting".

There's a good many driver condition cars for under $10k (non real SS). I agree though, many muscle cars are selling for 3-4x what they are worth.

The only one "stoopid" is your neighbor for not taking $60k for a '70 SS Camino. Tops is about $38k right now (454 LS6 SS).

That Puma reminds me of an Opel GT. What is the story behind it?

Something VW of Brazil made a lot of back in the day. I think there is some information in the link, or just do a Google search.

The later Puma GT's look more like Scirocco's and from memory might be front engined water cooled.

I like the earlier rear engine air cooled stuff of course.
