The catch? It has to do with all the tremendous and paralyzing fears we have, and rightfully so. Liberals might have their way. If that happens, then we can kiss our existing 401K acounts goodbye, as the gubmit will confiscate them. Also, we will wave a white flag throughout the world, apologize for hurting anyone and offer citizenship to any Al Queda member with proper ID. But that's not all. They'll raise taxes to fund the transition from a democratic form of government to a communist one. All personal income will be confiscated, and distributed according to need.
If we paid Dubya a dollar for every time he used the word "terrorist," I wonder if that would be greater than his salary. It think it might. Fear is a great motivator, and a popular one among politicians throughout time. Certainly very effective lately in the United States of America. The other element is the enemy. Got to have an enemy. In fact, an enemy for each different goal. For spending, we've got Terrorists. For marketing, we've got Liberals. It's important to draw a very broad, bright line between you and the Enemy. Liberals have got to be regarded as baby-eaters and Satan-worshippers. It's probably not going to be funny if you don't see the fear tactic thing. The view from the balcony, so to speak. If you've been watching all along, then it's funny. In a pathetic sort of way.

Interesting how true it is that an enemy is required, whether that enemy be AL Queda, or COmmunists, or Jews, or Slave, or any other you can imagine, either real or ficticious.
Play the fear card and there are those sheeple out there who will fall in line and vote to have more and more individual freedoms taken away. Has worked in the past. WIll work today. Will work tomorrow. Human nature. Be (continually) afraid. Be very afraid. It is your duty.

1. Revolution breeds Stability.
2. Stability breeds Apathy. 3. Apathy breeds Corruption. 4. Corruption breeds Fear. 5. Fear breeds Nationalism. 6. Nationalism breeds Traitors. 7. Traitors breed Revolution. See 1. We are at 6. Unfortunately, the Democrats (Traitors) are too weak, and afraid, to revolt and bring the founding ideals of our Country back to the fore.

I see a glaring irony, and I'm wondering who else sees it. We talked about fear. Shaun's post above is interesting and, no doubt, largely accurate. But then he concludes it is the Dems who are too weak and AFRAID to revolt. Gosh, it's actually hard for me to envision how someone might draw that conclusion, except that nothing is surprising these days when it comes to perceptions of politics. For example, there is a perception out there that liberals oppose freedom, and conservatives embrace it. We've been all around that topic and it is still incredible to me that conservatives are reputed to be pro-freedom and liberals are reputed to be anti-freedom. Sure, I know the illustration. Gun control. That and.......well......gun control. And the mythical liberal tax craze.
You see, in my view, the liberals are the ones whose vision is most similar to that of our founding fathers. I'm a liberal and I have LOTS of liberal, and ultra-liberal, friends. And I'm not sure any of my friends would be the slightest bit comfortable with concepts like wiretapping or the gathering of other personal records without probable cause, a search warrant or even notification to the citizen that they are being investigated. Just as one example. Indeed, conservatives' definition of "freedom" seems to mean "freedom of commercial enterprises from government regulation." Conversely, conservatism seems to favor reductions in personal freedoms and liberties. I do not know a single liberal who would offer any support whatsoever toward this movement to erode personal freedoms. None.

And your view is wrong. The founding fathers wanted independence from government, not dependence on it for healthcare, retirement, food, etc...
