Vick pleads guilty; toss him to the (pit)bulls
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/08/20/vick/index.html
"Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter," attorney Billy Martin said. How do they unhurt the dogs that were tortured and killed? Who else was hurt? Some may say the Falcons, but they are a better team without this loser. |

I read that he may still be facing Virginia charges on this. I wonder if his plea deal will get him out of that.

Pit bulls attract the worst kind of owners. Certainly this is no exception and the dogs were the victims.
Hope Vick gets some hard time with some dawg-lovin' big boys.

Damned right ! So, does this mean he'll never wear an NFL uniform again? I sure hope so...

Wonder what the "reverends" Sharpton and Jackson have to say about this?

Pit bulls & yorkshire terrier have all kinds of owners. Because Paris Hilton has a chihuahua it doesn't mean that chihuahua owners are sluts & druggies. Check yourself.

The NFL won't even have to do anything. I really doubt any team will touch him with a 10 foot pole after this.
Mule- you're a good man for adopting and raising a well adjusted pitbull. I think a better phrasing would have been "Pitbulls TEND to attract the worst kind of owners", as opposed to the more conclusive original wording. I've met wonderful people with wonderful pitbulls. |

Unlikely. This will be enough for the Falcons to void his contract, and given how this is likely to go down (pleading guilty to some serious charges and doing time in prison), no other team is ever going to sign him when he gets out. He's toast.

Mule,
I would say that with pit bulls, it has become something of a vicious circle. They have a bad reputation, which attracts bad owners, which gives them a bad reputation... As with any generalization, there are certainly exceptions. The con-artist that lived across the street from me in college had a pit bull because he wanted a "mean, nasty dog". He got exactly what he wanted, though I"m sure any dog he had would have had the same disposition.

There are good, caring dog owners (like it sounds you are) and there are jackasses who are disproportionately attracted to Pit Bulls because those dogs tend to elicit a certain "macho" respect consistent with their "wanna-be-badass" attitudes, same goes for big jacked-up 4x4 trucks, NASCAR, Budweiser and wife beater shirts. Not saying they're ALL bad, but a disproportionate number of idiots seem to be attracted to all five.
This never was the dogs' fault. It's just another sad example of these dogs attracting the lowest and most primitive members of our society because they're "BAAAAAAAAAAD". Lots and lots and LOTS of Pit Bull puppies at shelters - represented far more disproportionately than other breeds. Why is that do you think? Irresponsible owners maybe? Sorry to dump you in with a stereotype and frankly I'm glad you're not the "typical" P-bull owner, but all-too-often these dogs are magnets for boorish idiots. It's nice to see someone who isn't.

What does his crime have to do with whether or not he plays football again. I don't give a rat's arse about Vick, but why all the hubub about what the league will do to him? If he is convicted of wrongdoing then let him get what the judge hands out.....guess I just don't understand why the NFL feels the need to get involved in the player's personal affairs.

True Jeff. There are some absolute dirtbags who get a Pit Bull so they can act like they have gonads. After seeing just how loyal, loving, gentle & well behaved these dogs are by nature, I can't tell you how much dog fighting sickens me. If it was punishable by death I would be a volunteer exocutioner.

I really think the NFL won't need to do anything here. Why bother getting involved when it doesn't matter?
I am trying to picture a team wanting to pull this guy in once he's out of prison. Many of the players wouldn't want him there either- I certainly wouldn't want to be slapping him on the a$$, saying "Good game, murderer" and getting all soapy in the shower with him.. ewwwwwwwwwww! |

That is not going to happen. Convicted sports figures tend to be idolized in prison.

I think he's seen the last of his QB days. While physically gifted, he wasn't that good a QB, and if & when he gets back to the NFL, I doubt if a team wants him to be the face of the franchise. He'll probably end up playing split end for the Raiders or on to the CFL.
