Bad art
Tabs' thread got me thinking about bad art. The link to http://www.museumofbadart.org/ really cracked me up.
Has anyone here ever been stuck with a piece of bad art? I think it's the scariest gift imaginable. My wife and I are fussy... I have refused to put pieces up. Most people know better than to chose art for someone else. However, it's always the people with HORRIBLE taste who seem to disregard this rule. This is the worst that comes to mind. This was a SURPRISE gift for my brother & his bride, from a friend who is dating an artist: ![]() -The artist did it using pictures of my brother & his wife... he had never seen them in person. -My brother, although handsome, does not look like Telly Savales; my sister-in-law does not have a mouth like a puckered arse. -It's HUGE... 3'x4' -It originally had flames coming from the buildings in the post-apocolyptic background, but the "friend" suggested they be removed, along with angel wings on the chair. -it has a signed "Certificate of Authenticity" on the back It wasn't intended to be funny, but it cracks me up every time I see it. Seriously, I just die laughing. They don't think it's funny AT ALL.

The ex-stripper sister-in-law of my coworker does bad art. She has a website, I'm looking for it...
But I don't have much to go on as all I know is that her name is Michelle and she lives in Ohio...

I agree; it's beyond belief the artist may have thought something wonderful had been created.
It boggles me head. Best, Kurt P.S.: I do like the old lady in the flowers. ![]() |

If anyone's interested, it's in downtown Dedham, Massachusetts in the lobby, basement and bathrooms (yes, really) of the movie theater. At least it was four years ago, the last time I was back that way.
I strongly suggest checking it out. The pieces are far more moving in person. Here's "Sunday on the Pot with George". My personal favorite of all time: ![]()

That one looks like "demon mother with child".
I don't like looking at it. It troubles me. KT

You should see the thing in person... it is shocking. That's just a picture I took at the reception. It doesn't do justice to the fantasy/post-apocalypse theme.

So Jake, in the painting (I use the term loosely), your Brother looks like a young George C. Scott in a Priest outfit, and your Sis-in-law looks pregnant with the apoctolyptic background. Is your Niece/Nephew the "spawn of satan" or is everything cool. They didn't name him Damian, did they? No wierd 666 birthmarks? Just curious.

In the "painting" Jake posted, the sister-in-law's right hand appears to be floating, not resting, above the pregnant looking belly area. This and the puckered lips looks most odd.

They've taken music and art out of the school curricullum, and it's going to get even worse.
[/I]edited cause I spelled "curiculum' (sp) wrong, but I can hit a button for that, no button to repair "Bad Art"

Is there some sort of demonic squirrel in the lower left corner? Seems to be something peeking from behind the blue object. And seems to have flames shooting from it's arse.
![]() Is the painter on some sort of meds?

Ok, I've stopped laughing and can type. This thread is hilarious! We got a right bloody awful painting for a wedding gift a few years ago. My wife and I are into contemporary art and music and someone gave us an original painting of a very quaint 19th century country home scene, complete with lord and lady in a horse-drawn carriage, lots of lace (not the good kind!), gabled roofs, etc. I felt really bad disliking it, because it was probably quite expensive, and the people who gave it to us probably thought it was really nice, what a thoughtful gift, etc. but man is it hideous. I guess it serves us right for having a tiny registry with just a few things on it...
Why do people give gifts according to their own tastes, rather than those of the recipient?
