"World's Smallest Four-Cylinder Engine"

Cool.

Most likely the world's smallest four-cylinder engine, this tiny aircraft mill is the work of miniaturist George Luhrs ( http://www.sherline.com/jmfluh01.htm ), from whose basement workshop has emerged a number of tiny functionals. Not quite new news, the four-cylinder, four cycle ignition engine won first place in the Sherline Machinist's Challenge in 2000. He designed and built it from scratch, taking more than 600 hours to complete it, before being confined to a home for the very, very skilled. More miniature engines here ( http://jalopnik.com/cars/novelties/profiles-in-gearhead-nuttiness-clen-tomlinsons-mini-triangular-marine-diesel-156968.php ) and especially here (World's Smallest Supercharged V8 Engine with video here: http://jalopnik.com/cars/novelties/worlds-smallest-supercharged-v8-engine-++-now-with-details-251109.php ).[Tech e Blog]

What kind of equipment do you use to make parts that small? It must be extremely difficult trying to fixture those parts to machine them.

i prefer the tiny 1:3 scale V12 that was made by a frenchman, to run his small scale 312PB

i mean, at least you can train a pet hamster to drive it around the house
and it's a V12, and has Le Mans pedigree!!

Kurt, for the Supercharged V-8, here is the Web Site (http://www.weberprecision.com/) of the guy who built it. Lots of cool details.
