What a sad story. With both of my boys now working on cars with me, safety is one of those things that I'm finding remarkably easy to instill in them. None of this "I'll only be under there a minute, dad" kind of b.s. flies in our garage. It's so easy to be safe... And so lazy not to be. We all have loved ones that will be hurt by our loss, especially in such a needless manner. Don't be next.

Sad to hear this happened. My dad used to put blocks of wood under my car while it was on jack stands, he said he did not trust them. He was right a usual.

I went out to the garage and pinged my Jack stands with a ball peen hammer. They seem solid. I am going to grab some blocks of wood now though.

[QUOTE=widebody911;3545669]Nope
QUOTE] I had the exact same thought when I heard the news, whoo makes me feel a little bit better. Whenever I jack the car up I put the stands in, lower the jack just enough maybe a quarter of an inch from the car, and if the wheels come off they are going under the car.

Wow..that's horrible. Bad way to go....
I've never had a vehicle slip off the jack, or stands, or anything, but ever since I can remember, I've been leery of getting under cars. I mean scared, of getting under cars on the pretense that it could fall. Now I jack 'em up, chalk em, and use the jack stands. And still hate getting under there, but do it anyway...

I just got a scissors lift like Thom. I love it more when I read threads like this. I don't like working under the front where the release cable it. Afraid I'm going to trip it.
