Tabs Knows Everything There Is to Know

PWD got me to thinking about this. WD said that when he was 16 he was the worlds authority on everything. Now that he is 64 he realizes that he is just another dumb old guy.

I never really thought that I knew everything. When I was 20 it really came home to me that I didn't know didley about anything. I had the great epiphany while on the road to Damascus. What Mother and Daddy had failed to learn me about was how to navigate the schoals of life. It was always just a matter of blindly mucking your way through the storms of life as if there was no rhyme or reason. What I set about doing was trying to figure out the rhyme and reason of why things happen. I started to put the pieces to together into some kind of coherent picture. I knew from day one that it would be no easy task and it would take allot of time, of which I was more than willing to put the time on the table.

Now nearly 35 years on, I can finally say that I have the confidence to say that yeah I do know a little about something. The big thing I know is that when I run into something that I don't know about, I realize it. Another way to look at it is that a mans got to know his limitations.

The first big awareness of my ability to shape situations came when I realized that when a rock was dropped in my pond I was able to pull back within myself, spot the cause of the ripple which in of itself diffuses the situation and indicates a course of action to take. I would describe that as being able to thread the eye of a needle. The second dawning of light came when I started interacting on these Boards and realized that I was able to predict the reaction of people to various stimulus that I presented. That lead to the ability to prepare a counter course of action on my part to the possible spectrum of reactions. It has almost become mathematical in its predictability. From this the third awareness came from face to face meetings with Board members one might say that I am able to tailor the image of myself to fit the image someone wants to have of me.

One might say that I have been able to harness clarity of purpose to my endevors in life.

I have always had more respect for the people who know they don't know and admit it rather than the ones who don't admit that they don't know and know it.

The wise man knows he doesn't know much. He surrounds himself with people smarter and more experienced than he and he LISTENS to them.

Professionally? About when I turned 50 I realized, "my Dad's long buried, I've got a graduate degree so I am reasonably well educated. I've been doing what I do for 30 years now so I ain't taking any more schit from anyone at work. Not gonna be confrontational, just not "taking cr@p".

Personally, I refuse to be "in trouble". You live with me (same applies to married guys), you didn't adopt me. I don't need your permission to have an opinion. Again, not confrontational just matter of fact. Only a relative few percentages live at the extreme ends on the bell curve of "smarts" the rest of us live in the big middle hump. Live with it. Its your experience and that of trusted others that may make a difference, rely on it. What else you got?

I very much agree with the first part, tabs. Take the skills of any occupation in the hands of an experienced person for example. In my case, I often feel I know less today than when I left med school. Yet, the neat thing today is that I know precisely what I master and what I do not. Thus I am completely calm and mentally composed at every medical situation today. In the beginning I had more overall theoretical knowledge, but I had no experience on how to make it useful. Today I know what I know, can take responsibility for my actions and crucially, spot exactly when I don´t and need a second opinion.

In your second part you describe skills that can come in very handy in any given social situation. Giving the operator a certain strategic advantage of which the receiver often not is aware. There are more than anecdotal historical evidence that such a 'gift' can pay off handsomely. At least in a shorter perspective.

Tabs is on one of the extreme edges of that hump.

No one ever explained to him that he was on that edge and that most people won't have the same perception of things as he does. However being an egalitarian, he just thought everybody surely had the same understanding of things as he did. He could never figure out why he saw things so differently and felt left out. Now he understands fully the reason why...

Tabs, any reasonably intelligent and well informed person took this truth to be self evident.

Now if I could just broaden your world view a little even your interpretation of past events would be in line with your omniscients. Omniscientiousness?

Actually, I know the answer to everything. In the event I encounter something I don't know the answer to, give me a minute, I'll make something up.

Now THAT'S a social experiment. Now I wish I had a pond.

I did notice a slightly different tabs at the Nugget vs. the Wynn, though that could have been the size of the prime rib effecting my senses.

Roughly 24 "I's" in 4 paragraphs. A sure indication that Tabs might consider focusing that self proclaimed wisdom on someone other than himself.

There's a whole world of problems out there that need solving...c'mon man, help us out!

That, good sir, describes a troll rather well.

As the resident "Demi God" of the board, you should know the difference between a 944 and a 959 heater control unit ??...if so, you should have your people contact Waynes people.......

My most recent moment of "clarity" came to me as I was doing 170+mph. Several things occured to me at the same time..
1. Even though I was traveling at 3 times "normal" speed, I would not get where I was going 3 times faster .
2. My journey of life and my immediate journey at the time were being condensed into 1/2 an inch..(the amount of travel in my throttle)
3.The faster you go, the less you see between A and B...therefore the less you learn.
4.If the universe is endless, no matter which way you travel you will always end up where you started...eventually.
5.You get less bugs hitting you the faster you go.
