I've seen another car that had a Wilson Manifolds plenum mounted on top of the factory intercooler. It made 1100 & could be done for less than half of what they ask by any number of competent tuners. Remember, that engine is not very different from an '03 Cobra motor.

maybe you will not believe it but I bought my car because of THAT video. I could not stop thinking about it. I had loved the GT from the 1st sketches in 2001 (obviously I was in love with the original GT40 too) and Clarkson's video just did it for me. |

Not hard to believe at all. You are a lucky man, and one with good taste as well.

For lap times? MMMmmm the GT in stock trim is really soft. In a small twisty track I would give it to the Skyline...
But when it came down to what car I'd rather own.... my money went the GT way and the GTX1 is just marketing... as they "needed" to have an open version for Cali.... with $500 for a smaller pulley, $600 for a tune and $1250 for an exhaust the GT puts out 750hp... Still my point is that the Skyline (albeit in race car trim) was pulling on me at Brands Hatch. I am an ok driver and I am sure in the GP configuration of the track I would have lost him, but on that day, with our 2 cars the way they were he was faster.... In 2004 folks were getting right at 700 hp from the 4,6l Cobra motor with a Kenne Bell blower, a chip & an x pipe. The GT motor is almost the same but 5.4l. I just looked, they say a GT kit is near production. If I had to guess, 800 hp for about $5K.

The yellow GT is a Heffner Twin Turbo... 1k HP The great thing abt this is that the boost is controlled so that u have max boost only in 5th and 6th gear. It goes like 500hp in 1st, 600 in 2nd, 700 in 3rd and so on.
The advantage of a turbo over a SC is, beside efficiency, the flexibility. These days you can swap the SC and mount a 3.4L Whipple for 800hp and 5-7k. I still think the most effective is the smaller pulley that brings PSI to 17 (from 12 stock), remap and 750 hp. The car stock is rated at 550... but most people get 525-540 at the wheels. |

The turbo is without a doubt best. Just guessing, the whipple should be good for at least 100 over the pulley & tune.

it really all depends on how lean you want to go with the maps and how much u want to raise the rev limiter
I personally believe the last thing the GT needs is more power. The stock tires suck and if I had to spend $5k on it I'd get a transmission coler, some new throttle bodies and some adj shocks... |

That is far too fine a car to go stupid with. I'd stay conservative with the tune up. I see a lot of Porsche guys go crazy with suspension "upgrades." If you drive 90% like a normal human & 10% wide open, I don't know that I'd be willing to knock my fillings loose 90% of the time for a little improvement 10% of the time.
