Did you marry someone that was out of your league?
Yeah, I know we all think we're handsome devils but, honestly, do you think you bagged someone that was out of your league? Is your wife a beauty and you a geek? If so, how'd you manage it?
When I met my wife she was an athlete and a very good student. Tight body, beautiful face and the smartest girl I knew. I, on the other hand, was a total slacker, smoked but never inhaled (yeah that's my story and I'm sticking to it) and fought authority whenever I could. Good girls really do want bad boys. Of course now, after twenty three years of marriage, I'm pretty tame by anyone's standards. So, what's your story? |

At least to my eyes I did. To my eyes she still looks great, the same as she did 29 years ago. She is also a much nicer person than I, has a great family, great sense of humor and a fabulous outlook on life. Don't know why she said yes, but really glad she did.

Oh yeah.
We had some things in common. Both had farming roots. She had been a cheerleader in high school, was planning to be a teacher, I had no ambitions. After 31 years, she is still compact and looks 20 years younger, writes children's books, still teaches and is hardly ever still. She has been the starring role in this production, with me happily playing the supporting role. Lucky I played guitar and looked a bit like Kris Kristofferson (but sang a bit better ![]() Les

some women marry for a meal ticket and some marry for desire.
If 50% of them are unfaithful i figure i know which half.

Not married, but when I'm out with my g/f...I assume everyone thinks I'm "filthy rich", or hung like Holmes (I assure you I'm neither)

My ex-wife was the one who married out of her league. Her second husband, a fat, stupid Mexican asshat who treats her poorly and is 10 years older than she, is much more her speed.
Current spouse is a much better match for me too. At my son's(from the first marriage) wedding last July, it was pretty interesting. He is marrying out of his league a bit, she is smart and driven, he is just smart. I met the parents of the bride and they were stunned to meet me. They just assumed I would look as old as my ex, who is a year and appears at least a decade older than I. The years have not been kind to her. She made an embarrassing, drunken speech at the reception that seemed a lot longer than 10 minutes, but was probably no longer than the one the father of the bride gave that was funny and moving.

Dude, you do not want a picture of my ex-wife, unless you are looking to cast a voodoo spell on her or something.

Me and my wife are like "Green Acres" reincarnated. Shes a fashionable prissy city girl. Im a dirty jeans and old t-shirt guy. From what I know, she only dated white collar Wall street types. Im NYC born and bred but definately 180 degrees from the type she normaly dated.
I must have done something right. I scored big!

Yup. I was just a loser college dropout when we met, working construction. She was a serious student, well on her way to an accounting degree, and a looker to boot. 5 years later, she's a housewife with our two great kids, and I'm almost finished with my aerospace engineering degree. I guess I was her project.

My first wife was a model while going to college. She graduated with a degree in finance while I was working as a house painter (I did make excellent money). She outgrew me be leaps and bounds and left. Actually, I divorced her, but only after she had left for the stars. Literally, she ended up working as a controller in Hollywood and was smitten. She has gone on to marry well and become very wealthy by association and good management. (She is currently a widow if anyone thinks they want to try for a 62 YO b!tch with money and all the trappings. She's up in Santa Barbara, CA.)
I doubt if that one would have lasted longer than the 9 years it did regardless. I'm as much to blame as she. Been married now for 25 years to my wife. It's nice of you guys to put your wives in a special class because of who they are to you, but that's not the question. I'm sure it can work with a husband and wife in separate leagues, but it's tough. One or the other will suffer some embarrassment at one time or another unless they are completely selfless and independent of society. How many of us can say we are? Of course, the leagues have changed over the years, so the younger ones may play by different rules. Old school leagues were separated by manners and intellect with regard to being well read and informed. Fashion in the old school sense, meant a lot as well. One didn't commit faux pas while dressing one's self. How can you tell nowadays? Looks to me like you just have to be lucky and hit the right garbage can. I spent the better part of yesterday up in Pacific Palisades Village. There was a great farmer's market and a decent sidewalk cafe. Money all around. I couldn't tell you one from the other except maybe by how many hundreds they spent on dark glasses. I think my worker bee wife stood pretty tall amongst that crowd. I wasn't particularly drawn there except by the nearby roads and the fact that I was hungry. Nice to be home in my league. |

Oh yeah! I was an out of control, divorced, rock musician, working for a major record company at the time. They were saving me a seat at rehab. She was an airline employee, smart, conservative, good looking, and a great sense of humor. I was a one night stand that never went home. I needed furniture, she needed love, it was a perfect match...right! We got married in 6 months, I went to rehab and quit the record biz. We have been together for 27 years now. In the end, she straightened me out and I loosened her up. It still works just fine.
