It's about the Apollo program - mostly interviews with the Astronauts discussing the project and their experiences. Michael Collins and Alan Bean both definitely come off as guys you would want to have a beer or two with. The film is to some degree "talking heads" but they have a very different viewpoint than the typical writer who couldn't relate to how it would feel to sit on top of a 5 million pound rocket, walk on a place other than the earth, and return. Who else could??

It's also a wonderful showing of what can be done when great goals are set and tackled. Fabulous flick.

Correction: 6.2 million pound
373 ft. tall
7,500,000 lbs. thrust.

Good movie, got to watch it in historic mission control where apollo 11, 13, and various other missions were controlled from.

Yes, you are no doubt correct but I confess to working from memory. I'm not easily impressed, but when I stood at the business end of those 5 F1 engines I was completely dumbfounded. Magnificent.

How did you manage to see it there? Very cool! I hope you read Chris Kraft's book - also excellent.

I used to work on JSC's property and give tours of the Past, Present, and Future of NASA. I got to see some really cool things. I have plenty of pictures, but if you want to see something really, and I mean really cool do a quick google search with these keywords 'chariot program + NASA'

And congratulations STS-120 for a sucessful mission.

Lucky they never shot that last one off so we have a chance to walk around and check it out.

When did they build the barn over it?

Here are a few pictures:

The last two rockets is the new CEV project. When NASA retires the shuttle in 2010, the CEV or orion capsule will take over for all manned missions to the Space Station and onwards to moon by 2020. I could go on for hours....

I believe it was built about three years ago. I came to Houston as a tourist in 1998 and remember the Saturn V being in horrible shape. I have only lived here for about a year and the rocket is now beautifully restored.

And Btw, this is Apollo 18, it would of been the next mission to the moon. We still have three Saturn V's. One in Houston, one in Huntsville, Alabama, and one at Kennedy in Florida.

Oh yes they are big alright.. I know not quite sure, but I believe it is 14 ft. in diameter. And to think there are still SEVEN more engines after this stage that have to work perfectly. Jeez....
