Our Children Have been chewing on Lead infested Toys from China
it's all over the news. Our children have been playing with toys with lead in them.
but who has been held accountable? Lead in kids' toys, God knows for how many years this condition has existed and how many children will suffer the consequences ? This is the danger of corporations in bed with "our government" and their influence on laws and policies. Has the Mattel CEO lost his job? The gentleman thing to do would be to put a trigger to his head, like they do in China. they at least have some sense of shame. No shame here. hey, Mr. Mattel CEO, does your POS company have a quality department? it doesn't cost much to pull a few toys from production and test for lead, you jackA$$ Big business trumps all, profits above morals.. same with the mortgage meltdown. Bush will bail out the bankers and financial institutions, the people who are hurting left in the dirt. No consumer protection. Buy at your own risk God Bless America, just keep paying your taxes you $uckers, and feed the giant monster. ![]() Last edited by on-ramp; 11-06-2007 at 03:42 PM.. |

I hear one of the earlier symptoms is not knowing how to spell "Einstein".

The bean counters at Mattel knew exactly what they were getting and what the bottom line was. It's all for the profit now, who cars about honesty and morals.

Is it possible that the Chinese contractors did this without the knowledge of anyone in the U.S.?
I know Mattel apologized, but I got the feeling that it was done under duress from the Chinese government...

You want cheap, you get cheap.
I go the extra $$ and look for toys made either in the U.S. or Europe, preferably Germany. Same with clothing. And I'll cook dinner for my dog before I buy any animal food made in China. Good stuff is out there, it'll simply cost more and takes greater effort to obtain. We don't have to look to crappy Far East production for what we want.

Secondly, I think Mattel apologized not by the behest of the Chinese govt, but more the American mothers who all but bombed Mattel's headquarters in El Segundo, CA. Third: the Chinese should apologize to us.

dd74, I am not disagreeing. Certainly Mattel deserves some culpability for this. They put their name on the product; ultimately they are responsible.
Still, I wonder if they were deceived. If they intentionally turned a blind eye, they are certainly mostly responsible.

Mattel is responsible, they sell the toys. Why do they use lead paint anyway, cheaper? How much more could it cost to use unleaded? Go ahead, charge me .25 cents more and keep my kids from dain bramage.

The toy makers and any other company that sells this stuff should hang. What if a car maker put seats in that gave you cancer or tires that failed or SUVs that flipped?

I would agree with this but we had to send in a Thomas the train engine because of a lead paint recall. I dont consider these cheap and really I wouldnt consider mattel toys (hot wheels etc) cheap either. Buying toys at the dollar store is one thing but when they come from a reputable manufacturer like mattel there should be some expectation of quality and safety. I think both Mattel and the manufacture share responsibility.

American companies, including Mattel, have subsidiaries in China which are American-managed. The fault most likely lies in Mattel's management. Not that there aren't problems with Chinese-owned companies. But some of what's going on is good old fashioned Cold War China bashing. Without cheap Chinese goods, inflation in America would be sky high.

Cool, I was afraid that the freaking psychos would come back to reality and stop blowing this issue way out of proportion. Luckily, we have off-ramp to keep the hype going.
If your kids are chewing on toys, buy them a muzzle. Have you checked to find out how much lead is in that paint before you did the knee-jerk reaction? of course you haven't, that would ruin the soap opera you call a life. Lube, shame on you for your post. Usually you are much more level headed than that. Way to over-react. Truth be told, the amount of lead in the paint that is completely domiating the headlines and the minds of the weak, is infintesimal. not enough to create any real hazard, but that doesn't make sensationalistic headlines or give you a reason to get all worried over nothing, does it? To keep it in perspective, out parents and grandparents played with toys that had a hundred times the amount of lead that these toys are being recalled for. Its the freaking journalism flavor of the month and you bought it hook, line, and sinker. What's next, suffocating your kids because someone told you that breathnig air is bad for them? |
