another alternative and a hell of alot cheaper is HK's SP-89.
going up drastically because everyjuan wants to build MP-5's off of them. HK SP-89 with 30-40 round sticks in semi-auto is awesome firepower that will surely get everyjuans attention. VERY CONCEALABLE! can you tell im an HK FREAK! can take my 91 and 94 and HK BENELLI snotgun apart BLINDFOLDED and put back together. try that one! took me awhile, but perserverance paid off. |
Why would you even think about CCW'ing a class III weapon? Semi-auto hand- or wheel guns are far more effective, cheaper and come with far less legal and financial liability. Sure, those full auto Uzi and Glock pistols look like very fun toys. But let's face it, if you ever have to use it, you WILL lose it. Sure, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by six. But whatever gun you use in a shooting, legal or not, will be confiscated and will probably never see the light of day again. Compared to the cheapest class III gun, the most expensive SIG or H&K handgun is still a small fraction of the price.

Gotta go with Charles on this one. The novelty wears off very quickly. Everyone I have ever known that has owned a full auto weapon came to regret buying one. They are like horses; the best ones are the ones some one else owns and feeds. Fun to ride, but the cost and hassle of ownership just is not worth it.
You can never "undo" the state and federal paperwork required for clearance to own one. You will forever be on some one's list, "on the radar" so to speak. That tends to be the biggest regret I hear from owners (who have all, incidently, progressed to "former owners). The concessions you must make to own one are simply not worth it. Especially when you consider the real use you will get out of it. I'm not aware of any public or private ranges in my area that will allow them to be run on full auto. The few times I've ventured out with buddies that own them, we had to head far up into the boonies where hopefully no one would hear it and call the National Guard or something. Folks will generally ignore gun fire within earshot in areas where they are used to hearing it. For some odd reason, they seem incapable of ignoring full auto fire. It tends to really get their attention. This will severely limit your options as far as places to play. Factor in the cost on top of that, and you too will soon join the ranks of "former owners". The only guys that hand onto these things for any length of time are the collectors that don't shoot them, or guys with some very unique circumstances that allow them to shoot them. You're probably not one of those guys. |

Because I can... :D The Serbu is only $700 and there is no shortage of them. I can get another if confiscated. I also believe a short-barreled shotgun would be better in a close-quarters gunfight (e.g. inside a convenience store, bank lobby, vehicle). You're only going to "F" up anyone close to you. Targets outside of 20 ~ 30 feet are only going to get lightly peppered. A round from a handgun will go much further and do more damage to a collateral target. |
only guys i know that do enjoy them are gun shop owners. wonder why. get their ammo at cost. and when tired of them sell for profit.
FBI actually went back to HK and had HK MP-5's converted back to semi auto. ie. a HK-94 like i have. too much muzzle rise, and lack of bullets on bad guy. fer sure an awesome amount of lead downrange, but what counts is rounds on target to defeat bad guy. all day long i can hit target at 400-500 meters with stock HK-94 w/no scope. click that trigger 30-40 times and target is no mas. hell of alot of fun and no federal crap to deal with. same as above happened with M-14 auto, TOO MUCH MUZZLE RISE! detuned it to semi auto because most GI's unless yer 'lil john from "combat" could handle it. even a pissant .223 M-16 barrel comes up on full auto. really have to stand into them to get rounds on target. happy medium you will notice when you look at HKPRO.COM is 3-round burst navy trigger group. rule of thumb..............long barrel with belt fed ammo keeps bad guys from yer pillbox! short barrel with 30-40 rd sticks or drums wipes out bad guys in close quarters ie. spray the room down ie. hose it! |
Man, it must suck to be "you guys". Move to Indiana!!
Once you have your CCW, you can walk into a shop and it's cash-n-carry for a new gun. If you want to obtain a full auto piece or a silencer, you pay $500 for a transfer stamp, and processing (processing takes about 2 weeks). Once the paperwork comes back, it is faxed to seller of said item, and it is shipped. A buddy of mine just bought a silencer for his mod. M16. Took 3 weeks total! As for my opinion on what to get I would say an M1919. Why? It is the ultimate MG!! For what it gets used for, it is ideal IMO. -Replacement barrels are readily available, and reasonably priced. -Replacement barrel extensions, followers, bolts, etc. all readily available. -Easy to field strip and maintain. -Fires .308 ammo, which can be found surplus for CHEAP! -No hunting around for clips (magazines)! -Heavy enough that it doesn't walk all over the place when firing. -Makes a great conversation piece for your gun/re-loading room :) Plus, you have to love the sound of full auto .308s tearing down the range. Oh, P.S. ALL of the outdoor ranges in this area have dedicated full auto areas! -Nick |
Nick, it works exactly that way in VA too, even in liberal Fairfax Co. A CCW holder is even exempt from the one-gun-a-month law. I buy guns by mail all the time and just have my local FFL handle them for me. Gun show purchases take about 20 min., cash and carry. Private sales about five min. in the Home Depot parking lot.

...Home Depot parking lot :) Love it! |
Man, I'm buying a 10-22 after work today.
I'm going to have to fill out the form and pay for it today (all of 5 mins.). Then I have to wait 24 hours to pick it up, because I might go on a killing spree with a 10-22. |

I believe it is a "feel good" type law. If someone is pizzed enough to want to shoot you, they're going to find/steal/borrow a gun to do it with. But, if you or I, knowing we are under threat, want a gun to protect ourselves, we have to wait 3 ~ 5 days. |

It does look like fun to fire that thing though. But if you're going to get something auto, go full out. Get that gatling gun off the A-10. Mount it on a slab in your front yard. Kill the mailman.. |
