Full Auto

Yep, I've been looking into buying one.

Thinking about:

B.A.R. - $26,000 - supposedly New Old Stock, unfired

Thompson - $12,500

Uzi - $8000 - 9mm but includes 45ACP and 22LR conversion kits

Thoughts?

I like the idea that I can use them, so I'd prefer a used B.A.R. over the obviously collectible one.

Get the BAR if you can get your hands on one.

Thompsons are pieces of junk, IMO.

Rick Lee 11-08-2007 04:20 PM

Congrats. This is a longterm goal of mine. I'd like an AK-47 or something that's easy to get cheap, surplus Chinese ammo for.

legion 11-08-2007 04:22 PM

You could get some nice Porsches for those prices. :D

Rick Lee 11-08-2007 04:24 PM

Shortly after 9/11 I was at a local gun store and range. They were almost out of inventory for the run on guns. One guy at the range had a full auto Tommy gun and a mountain of brass under it. I asked the clerk if he had bought the ammo at the store and he said, "Yeah, he's up to about $1500 so far today." Yeah, you can buy Porsches for class III prices. But Porsches are far cheaper to run.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-08-2007 04:25 PM

If I could afford a BAR I'd get one tomorrow. CA or no CA. I'd figure out a way. If you're so fortunate, go for it! I can't imagine those dropping in value anytime soon!

lendaddy 11-08-2007 04:29 PM

I'm not the paranoid type in the least but owning class III goodness has to put me on some lists I don't want to be on.

I would much sooner black market something like that.

red-beard 11-08-2007 05:06 PM

I'm already on the list, I have a CHL.

on2wheels52 11-08-2007 05:15 PM

When I obtained my FFL 22 years ago I could have had a class III piggy-backed to my class (I forget what mine is, VII maybe). Still not interested but would spring for a few rounds to watch you shoot yours.
Has anyone been to any of the West Point, KY shoots?
Jim

full auto.........hmmmmm..........my thoughts..........

1) ungodly investment! once they are gone they are gone! adios! no mas!

2) PITA to clear paperwork and this aint gonna be plug and play after you pay, figure quite some time before paperwork gets through all jurisdictions.

3) some ranges do not allow them.

4) plan on importing 55 gallon drums in of ammo, or start reloading mass quanities and stock heavily on brass

5) laws are very clear about what rights you give up. example: nearest bank to yer house gets robbed. dumb-A$$ teller girl says " HE HAD A BLACK MACHINE GUN!". FBI agent that responds to bank, pulls out laptop, clicks 50 mile radius, and guess whose name comes up??????

now agents start from A and go to Z, confirming that each and every owner has his full auto in possession. this could be 2am in the morning while your in the sack w/the old lady. and they are coming thru the door NO MATTER WHAT! this might not be fun, depending on your attitude.

6) do you have a safe? A VERY GOOD SAFE. not some chezzeball sheet metal one. is it fireproof? can you safely store ammo? cuz yer gonna have alot! primers powder etc.

7) whatever caliber you go with, call dillon and see whats the number of rounds produced per hour on their machines. good indicator of how much time you will spend on it if you shoot it alot.

8) honestly everyone of my friends that own one it was a novelty. and then the fun wore off.

9) great investment and also a PITA to sell once you burn out on it. meaning finding legal new owner w/that kind of bucks. it will take time, no instant turnover, unless gun store wants it.

10) BAR is wayyyyyyyyyyy cool, can you get new barrels?

11) my favorite.........HK 51 SBR..............fire breathing MONSTER in .308!

isn't that the SMG the feds use?

A BAR would be cool to have.

I have patient who has some serious iron, Barrett .50, Tommy gun, some really cool vintage stuff, he is craving a BAR, or so he said. He just went to some shoot in Nevada, but they would not let them shoot pumpkins full of black powder and gasoline with tracers, something about fire risk.

futuresoptions 11-08-2007 06:01 PM

Bar is too big to use if need be and the ammo prices would be enormous I believe they're 30-06. Plus I think it would be hard to find hi cap mags for that thing. HK MP5 great all around gun, very reliable and in 9mm. Feds, Seals you name it use them....

futuresoptions 11-08-2007 06:03 PM

You can also find HK G3's in .308, or even a British Sten would be a fun little gun.

Danny_Ocean 11-08-2007 06:09 PM

I'm picking up one of these (Serbu Super Shorty)...http://hometown.aol.com/ipspics2/supershorty.jpg

It is considered an "AOW", so no ClassIII required. And, I can carry on my CCW!

legion 11-08-2007 06:11 PM

I didn't think any barrel length under 18" was legal.

futuresoptions 11-08-2007 06:13 PM

Nice home defense gun, a M16 might be a good choice too red beard.... lots of various goodies to buy for that, replacement barrels, ammo, accesories etc....

that damn thing is gonna hurt! both you and the bad guy! WOW!

CCW! LMFAO! too damn funny!

HK 21's can be found at RDTS.com here in sunny cave creek, az. (home of the cave).

can be belt fed, mag fed your choice. also MP-5's, G-3's and all the flavors!

alot of guys at ben avery range are converting odd ball u.s. and foreign machine gun calibers over to .308 because belt feeding them cheaper easier.

They are NFA, like machine guns, except the transfer tax is a lot less.

NFA? What's that? I'm sure it doesn't exist in oppressive IL.
