Swedish "hacker" gains access to email accounts of foreign government personnel

Yep, you read it correctly. A Swedish "security consultant" apparently intercepted, albeit unintentionally, login information and data for diplomats and government personnel around the world.

Let me get back to you on that specific request.

Letīs see, in the mean time I can offer you the confirmed location of the Chief of Talibans. Oh, and Jimmy Hoffa. Apparently ended up in Finland somehow. I have the likely result for the 2008 NHL season, corrected for corruption and the true answer to the question of Global Warming. Up for grabs!

What do you know. I could be looking at a lucrative business deal here. Everybody needs a little fluffing now and then.

Hack of the year my ass, hello he "sniffed" the Internet - mind blowing

All it comes down to is people who think they are protected are not and everyone is watching. It will be interesting though if they try to charge him with anything as I can't see anything he did wrong (as long as he had permission to put tor on the hosts he did) Years ago I attended a "course" where the instructor said SSL encryption was being broken in real-time by one individual (who was a white hat). In REAL-TIME, of course if this got out everything would be screwed, online banking, SSL VPN's, etc. there is no real alternative and this would have catastrophic repercussions around the globe. Now THAT's a hack...

I think the big deal stems from the fact that what he likely stumbled on to was an underground monitoring organization who was watching those email accts. So, he was watching the watchers.

But, yea, if that's the hack of the year, it's been a lame year. I've heard much better stories ![]() SSL being broken real-time? I dunno...something like that, he'd have told someone, and it likely would have made headlines by now. Or someone else would have found it. I guess it's possible though. If it happened...:-X He's probably in trouble for the fact that he published the user names and passwords on his website.

Dunno; public Internet, if I see your username and password fly by me, why could I not post it on a website? As long as I am not asking for money for it.
