How did FCC censorship get like this?

You can watch a man executed, you can see rape, murder, torture, drownings, whatever violent deaths you can imagine, all at primetime on broadcast television. But for some reason, a naked chick might be damaging to the psyche, so its not allowed. Oh, you can't say the f word or the c word either. Those might be damaging.

I personally am against all censorship, especially with the ratings system and parent blockers on tvs now. Also, I think it is a parent's job to take care of their kids.

BUT- even if you are a supporter of censoring out things on TV, how did Boobs and vagina get ahead of exploding skulls? It doesn't make a bit of sense to me. Educate me about the damage that a nipple could cause

The three networks get hosed. They can't put certain things on the airwaves, that the cable networks can. And if your like most americans, you get the big three networks and the cable channels on YOUR CABLE! Go figure.

Even on cable stations, it seems that boobs are bad. Why?!!?

I like boobs.

Government sucking up to prudish religious Xian types.

Yeah, my friend in Germany tells me all the time. People over there think we are nuts for this, and this is a rare case of me agreeing with them. Americans are nuts when it comes to naked chicks on tv- come on! More naked chicks on TV please!

Because it will give young men the wrong idea about women*, and rape cases will sky-rocket. Blame the feminists, too, since women aren't just "sex objects." No, they aren't sex objects, but they are objects...objects of art. Possibly the only thing more beautiful than a woman's body is a 62' Ferrari 250 GTO. And that's debatable.

*As if pop culture isn't already doing it. Just listen to rap music and see how women are portrayed.

You know what I hate......... I hate watching a really good movie and because of one stupid 60 second sex scene, I can't let my kids watch it.

Why can't Hollywood put a PG version of probably 75% of the movies out there, delete the 60 second scene and let our kids enjoy the movie too? I know there was a Christian company doing this years ago (10+/-), but they got sued and stopped.

SlowToady 11-28-2007 07:44 AM

Better yet, we could simply do away with the massive taboo that surrounds sex and naked people. That would really solve the problem. Europeans don't seem to have a problem with it...

Once dated a girl from Xian. She was kind of prudish. But that is China for you.

Ever watch the Sopranos reruns on A&E? Or the edited-for-tv versions of Casino and Goodfellas?

"Flip you, you bloodsucker!"

Yeah, that's how everyone talks in the real world. I'd be more worried about my kids copycatting such behavior and getting hazed for it in school than actually saying it the way it's said in the real world.

They got sued? I wonder if it had more to do with them not paying the owners of the movie properly or something, becuase it sounds like a good idea- they could sell the movie to more people and make more money.

With DVDs, wouldn't it be easy for you to skip over the offensive scenes while you watched with your kids?

Rick Lee 11-28-2007 07:56 AM

Why is it so bad for kids to see nudity? Does anyone really make it to the age of 17 without having seen it elsewhere? Is there a single boy under 17 who has not found a porn mag stashed somewhere? Even before the Internet, I don't think this was possible.

mtelliott 11-28-2007 07:57 AM

This is one of my wife's biggest issue. You can see someone get their head blown off, but you can't see a breast. You can see simulated rape, but you can't see a breast. You can see torture, but let a breast get exposed and immediately there are fines, public apologies, etc.

Boobs are evil. Jesus sez so.

The sex-phobic society only seems to magnify the need for it in males.
It is a constantly repeated hint of a message which sells beer and cars in order to create an escapist fantasy mindset.
What is "banned" must be quite scarce and valuable, eh? A pre-wired rebel is always interested only in what is on the other side of the wall. Where are our eyes on a g-string cutie?

So then males desire "it" more, and females believe "it" is worth more, and much wasted time is spent around the final goal of "it": A moment of temporary satisfaction being viewed as the culmination of self-realization. Slave to instinctual reaction.

Meanwhile the basic human abilities of communication and relationship are downplayed as unessessary, so after the hormonal sex round (day/week/month) is over, there are females with high expectations and males with sexual boredom.
Neither partner has developed emotionally, and no emotional bond has taken place, so no common elements remain between the two.

Cultural stigma used to be significant when people in this country had close ties with their family and neightbors but no more.
So how to solve the mess? Divorce lawyers and paternety laws.
Exit long-term paring of mates, enter disposable people and society. Fear and greed.

On the international-economic level, this type of carrot-on-a-stick culture will prove to be a real time waster in terms of productive student/worker hours. We'll see.

If we allowed nudity on TV we would all start acting like Europeans. Ugghh. ;)
Seriously, violence is a big part of life and is necessary for survival. It is a very useful tool for tellnig the story of good vs. evil.
Nudity on TV or in movies does one thing, promotes lust.
You see boobies, you feel lust. If you didn't you wouldn't really care about seeing them so it would be a non-issue.

Watching violence does not necesarily make you feel violent, but nudity makes you feel lustful.
Lust is one of the 7 deadly sins, violence is not.

SlowToady 11-28-2007 08:43 AM

Um, without nudity and sex...there IS no life...it IS survival.

I guess I need to see someone's head crushed in a vice until their eyeballs pop out of their skull to realize the difference between good and bad. Oh wait, that movie was Casino, and the guy who got his head crushed was a card counter or something, and the guy who put his head in a vice is murderer.

Tell me again, which one of them is "good" and which is "bad?"

Weak argument man.

No way was it possible! I remember somebody, somehow, would come across a porn. This porn would then be stashed somewhere, and every kid in a 5 mile radius quickly would learn where this porn was. I remember the very first porn mag I saw. We found it stashed in a basement window well, right where we heard it was. It was two chicks naked, sitting together on a concrete wall.

I was confused by this, but one of the other kids cleared things up for me-

"They pee on each other's hands and rub it on their privates. They pretend to make babies with each other."

Me- "Oh. Of COURSE!"

We had it all figured out :p

That argument would explain it only if you lived in a Theocracy.

Oh wait...
