Miami Dolphins

I am not much of a football fan- I watch it sometimes, gritting my teeth when the commentators open their mouths with such gems as "To win this game, they'll have to score more points than the opponents".

Last night, I thought the Dolphins didn't look THAT bad. I am just suprised that the coach didn't try for some field goals- conditions were bad, but statistically I think it was wrong not to try.

Should they have tried for FGs, or am I missing something?

Kicking field goals in those conditions is VERY difficult. Heck, the 44-yarder was kicked out of a divot that looked to be 6" deep. I was actually thinking that game was going to the end of O.T. 0-0.

The Dolphins should be very frustrated - they actually could have won that game. Their run defense is simply pitiful.

It'd be ironic if--I mean when--the Pats go 16-0 the Dolphins go 0-16...

I understand that the conditions meant chances of a successful FG were low.

BUT-

Lets say successful FG chances are 10%.
What if successful first down on 4th & 11 is a 5% chance?

Isn't it better then to try a FG?

And as far as punting in that scenario, why bother? Their defense had been doing OK stopping the Steelers anyhow.

They apparently had no faith in their kicker. The way either team was moving the ball, they should have tried for a field goal when they had the chance. It only took one to win the game.

Any team that takes back a 4 time loser druggy does not deserve to win.
I hope they go 0-16.

Did they have a choice in letting him come back?

I don't know how sports contracts work, besides being for a lot of money that I wish I had.

I'm a Dolphins fan (lived just outside Ft. Lauderdale for seven years) and hate to see them lose like this, but at this rate, I believe that if they go 0-16 it might be the best motivation for their upper management to absolutely clean house and start all over again - which I think they need at this point.

They are simply awful! Imo, their demise began with the resignation of the mighty Don Shula. Before he left, they were the winningest team in the NFL over the long term. The final blow for them was the day Dan Marino retired (although, admittedly, it was time for him to retire).

Zac Thomas played hs football in my hometown. He led us the furthest into the playoffs we'd ever been in the fall of 91. He was the same size in hs as he is now. He destroyed people. He was a one man wrecking crew. When he hit a 170lb qb or running back that guy was toast. He went to Texas Tech because there wasn't another D-1 team in the nation that offered him anything. He was the starting middle lb by the 3rd or 4th game his freshman year. Multi time all american. Jimmy Johnson drafted him in the 5th round and he replaced Jack Del Rio by the 3rd or 4th game his rookie year. For any Miami fan you are familiar with his all out style of play. He thought of retiring 2 years ago after knee trouble but was the ultimate warrior and continued on. He's had concussions previous years but this year all those years have taken their toll. The heart and soul of their D, he has missed most of the year first due to another concussion then after the Patriots game he was on his way home from the game and was rear ended by a SUV driving Patriots fan talking on his phone. Whiplash, more concussion repurcusions etc. His uncle works out with my father in law at a gym and told him last week he probably won't return this year and it will retire. They couldn't afford to lose him and now he is toast. Some of you may have known this but that is the story for Zac.

I really hope it happens. I am a Pats fan because of Brady. I have always been a U of M fan and always like to see alumni do good in the pros. Plus, Schula is an ass. I have never liked the Dolphins. I laughed my ass off a few years ago when Boomer said that Peyton Manning was this generations Dan Marino, best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. I though Marino was gonna jump outta his chair.

Wow, why all the hate? The Fins won the big one over 30 years ago. They were good year in year out and yet never won it again. I hope and prey the slobbering slathering BB NE fans fall on hard times for the next 20 years. In the fickle world of the NFL NE is due for a very hard fall.

NE football sucked for quite a long time. Shame too as they did have some good talent in the likes of Steve Grogan, John Hannah, Andre Tippett, etc. Used to be growing up there that you could count on the Red Sox to disappoint from April through September and the Patriots to disappoint from September through January, giving you exactly three months of nobody providing excuses for griping, complaining, throwing crap at the TV screen, throwing the TV out the window or other activities. It has thankfully come full circle. The Patriots were laughably bad for years. Almost Miami bad a couple of seasons.

Just shows what a decent owner and front office can do. Miami should start there. Any given team in the NFL can be good - it just takes the right people in the right places.

I watched a little bit of the 3rd and 4th quarter. I've never laughed so hard at a football game! I really liked the punt when the ball stuck halfway into the turf .
