Dads: magnets for buttons on pants?
for 12M through size 4T, what do you think of magnets for buttons on pants.
We've heard it all about snaps, slide clips, and buttons/holes and no kid is up to any of these, yet the entire industry uses any and all of them. Would you, or more importantly your wife, have an objection to a contoured magnet where a button would usually go? Any concerns about magnets being so close to the body? |
no objection (doesn't the golf set think magnets make them tiger woods or something?) but wouldn't expect them to work. we have been happy with elastic waistbands.
|
Great until you get two kids with their pants stuck to each other.
|
Shaun, I could see a kid easily worming themself out of their clothes with magnets. Do you have any friends with kids? Maybe you could make a prototype and send it home with them. Get some real-world feedback.

Magnets would be cool on little kid's pants. After working on your car, you could drag them underneath to pick up all of the 'spares'...
|
I think it'll decrease swimmer output :D
|
I think it's positive, because it will train your kid for his future as a Chippendale Dancer.;)

Here's another response...
I understand the attraction. I suspect that it would be expensive compared to alternative forms of simple fastener. On the other hand magnets are really cool. Obviously they would have to be non-ferrous or at least sealed in a rust proof casing/coating. |

If they somehow got "out" of the clothes, the magnets can be a BIG hazzard if swallowed (only two or more... just one and you'll be OK). Something about pinching tissue between the 2 (or more) and stopping blood flow and dying tissue...
We have lots of elastic waistband pants for our son (not quite 4), forget what we used for the daughter (she's 7 now). Big snaps work OK, maybe a bigger buttonfly type arrangement? |
Make them giant, un-swallowable magnets.
More surface area for cleanup after that roofing job. |

Wait, I just thought about how my son would react. I'd turn away and find his pants stuck on the chair and him running in his Go! Diego underware though the restaurant. |
It would be an improvement on his power-to-weight ratio. :)

<rimshot> thank you folks, he'll be here all week. Try the veal. |
I think it would work and at that age I would not worry about kids putting any loose ones in their mouths
We have been getting our 4 y/o pants with snaps and since he is tall and thin it is pretty damn tough to find pants that fit right. |
Magnents could be bad, I second the comment on the kids swallowing them. Not that all kids would, but the freakish moms and dads (you know the type, the ones that actually post reveiews for items, like "my 8 month fell out of this high chair, so I don't reccomend it", but what they aren't sayng is that they left the baby alone in the high chair....) would squash the whole magnent thing.
|
Naw, it would cause all of the iron in the body to gather in the genital region and possibly rust the important parts.....just a thought :)
|
Just don't get them near your wallet, bye,bye credit cards. Try and get the kid on a plane past security.
